Dwarf Kings Hold: Green Menace Announced
June 18, 2011 by beerogre
Brand new and coming soon from Mantic... it's Dwarf Kings Hold 2!
Green Menace!!!
This time it's the Elves and the Orcs doing battle in the cepth of the Dwarven Halls. So expect loots of archery action and angry greenskins!
But that's not all... hidden away on Mantic's website you can find two new miniatures.
First is the Dark Elf Sorceress:
Ronnie has been hinting that the new race for Kings of War would be out soon... I think this confirms that "Naughty Elves" will be they.
However, if scantily clad Elf girls aren't your thing, then how about a ferocious chap with a big weapon...
Mantic's Orc range just keeps getting more interesting with more characters and heroic types to build up your rampaging horde.
Here's a treat too... for those of you going to Q-Con in Belfast next week. Not only can you meet the BoW team, but Jake Thornton, the creative genius behind Dwarf Kings Hold will be in attendance... and he'll be running games of DWK!
Things just keep getting better!

Wow – that’s fantastic! Love the models and can’t wait for the expanded Dwarf King’s Hold. Brilliant work from Mantic.
more mantic!!! yay!!! I just did a video about undead price comparisons! It is insane the difference!!!
Is it on YouTube?
Why not link it through as a blog post… or post it in the Kings of War group.
Just copy & paste the address and the BoW system does the rest.
If you have any problems, send me the link.
I’ll just post it here, make it easier 😛
EMBED POWERS ACTIVATE!

cons:
ohhh that music
tripod needed
pros:
Mantic for whfb makes sense
good to see direct price comparison
gw trolls shall be summoned- oh wait isnt that a con 😉
i now have a voice to go with your name
i use the tablet, and it is a horrible little bugger to hold up when u are exhausted, and i use the music to keep it from being just my voice droning on and on, I’m not warren or darrel, my voice does not sound good
If you haven’t got a tripod.
Then a big blob of blutack (ot other stick putty like plasticine) and a mug turned upside down will hold your camera steady and allow you to slide it along a surface or rotate it, without lifting it from the table.
See… we are BoW… we know all about how to do visuals things dead good!
Now if only get English writing and speak smart we be fabulous… 😀
I really like the pose on the sorceress GIEF! and wooot DKH2!!!! HONEY WE BE EATIN TUNA FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH! KK!
oo you think you’re better than the rest of us just cos you can afford tuna!
makes him more intellgent cos of all those dolphins mixed in with it
thank you marge simpson for that one
DKH2 is a right pain…where shall i find the cash for it from?
I sugest selling sperm
Love them both. As much as I’d like to look upon the sorceress and say something about geek fever dreams, the naughty little fetishist in me just won’t let me … 😛 It’s fantastic how much character Krudger has; looks like an intelligent old commander, who can also wield a mean piece of metal and that makes him way more scary then some pure mindless “monkeyshness” some of the orc sculpts out there exhibit. Plus, he looks a bit like my friend’s father and I tell you; it makes it hilarious – the good man is the best of souls,… Read more »
Just saw the “does not include the display base” on the elf; hope at least the staff/cauldron/altar is included.
Next time I speak to Ronnie, I’ll ask him.
Surely at least part of the stone must be included with the model as otherwise the sorceress would be standing with one leg raised for no reason. That said she is an elf … they are always doing weird things like that. While I like the basic Orcs from Mantic I don’t think I liked them enough to be fully drawn to buy some, the character models are something else though, they are ridiculously good, if not the best characters Mantic have produced yet. Green Menace sounds like it could be great fun if it is indeed a bit more… Read more »
I did a review of the first Dwarf Kings Hold: Dead Rising on my blog:
http://thefrontlinegamer.blogspot.com/2011/06/review-dwarf-kings-hold-dead-rising.html
I’ve got Green Menace on preorder so that should give you a hint as to what I think of the first game. I’m actually really impressed also with Warpaths Alpha rules so far and also liking the look of Kings of War. I actually really like the Orcs, I think their Undead are really good and although the Dwarfs aren’t the best around I do really like them. The Abyssal Dwarfs are really nice too.
That dark-elfs so sexy shes gotta be russian. That’s my new wife sorted then. Ill be buying her.
It’s hard to judge the dark elf at the moment, it looks a bit cheap to be honest. The Ork is great but not very Orkish, it’s face looks more like a Goblin. Or a very old Ork I guess!
I think you’re too used to the Games Workshops Brian Nelson Orcs. The Mantic Orcs are their own design and I like the ‘ape’ like beast face, and maybe just a hint of the Uruk-hai from the LoTR films. I always felt the GW orcs were a little too comic for me with their tiny craniums and oversized mandibles, even though they were nicely done. Its all personal taste of course but I actually prefer the look of the Mantic orcs even though I did quite like Brian Nelsons orcs at the time, especially the wizard with staff.
I don’t understand… What is the difference between that Dark Elf and an “expensive” Dark Elf?
As for the Orc. You say it doesn’t look very “Orclike”… What does an Orc look like?
Do you mean it doesn’t look like a Tolkien Orc?
A pig-faced D&D Orc?
A lantern-jawed GW Orc?
An elegant and feral Rakham Orc?
Or perhaps it looks like a Mantic Orc… 😉
I don’t really want to comment on the Dark Elf as it’s a bit unfair, just looks less detailed than some of the other stuff available, but I don’t know, that’s kinda what I meant by ‘cheap’ – but I don’t want to judge as the picture might not do it justice. I know exactly what Orcs look like as I deal with Orc insurance and meet with them on a daily basis, so I’m certainly in a position to comment on what they look like. But no, seriously, I think that Orc Leader looks different to the other Orcs… Read more »
It’s big, it’s green, it looks like it would shout a bit before chopping your face off…..yup…ticks most of the boxes for being an orc.
Plus unlike the orcs I saw being released when I stopped playing GW stuff (just after 3rd ed 40k) it doesn’t look like it’s face is melting. Love the Mantic Orcs and Elves…wish there was a club in the midlands I could play KoW at.
You see… When you define you terms it’s easier to see what you mean.
Yes, the Dark Elf has fewer “skullz & spikez” when compared to other ranges, but I like my models more D&D than Warhammer, so I like it.
As for Orcs… This guy looks different from the others… Is that a bad thing?
I’m getting one to use as a Half-Orc barbarian for our studio RPG.
Horses for courses I think. 😉
I’m with yah andy, the overbearing amount of skulls on models can be very annoying, I won’t be getting away from that because I’m goin undead, but it is always good to not see skulls everywhere
Some of Mantic’s photos do not do their models justice, or their paint schemes, I have to say. Once you have them in your hands they really look better.
It’s true, the Orc has more character which is realistic, as with humans we all look a bit different to eachother. Her certainly feels like an elderly orc I think.
I had to look up “horses for courses” on google, I am ashamed to say.
u know, if the dark elves are as scandalous as that they might actually be a decent proxy for both dark elves and wood elves if painted more friendly tones… i must tell the wood elf player in my branch!!
man ! this Dark Elf sorceress is …yes, yes Ill use THE word… FUCKING Sweet !
I really like the Orc, I can’t wait for the stuff Mantic will be bringing out in the next few years if their early stuff looks this good.
They look great but the’re in metal right? so I won’t bother buying one until they make them i plastic/resin, I already have a box full of painted, chipped, “arms falling of all the time” models.
Well you see, some people are capable of looking after metal models.
Not to mention that well made metal models go together, and stay together, just as easily as plastic or resin.
Far too many people in the world seem to think that ALL metal models are like GW’s glue repelling, gaps everywhere, covered in flash and mould lines stuff.
This comment convinces me to only ever buy gamesworkshop finecast resin models …
I think the models are both really nice and i think Mantic do quality work but for some reason that i cant quite put my finger on, im still not convinced by Mantic’s design studio style. Its not that im all about GW or any other manufacturer, its just something fundamental about their concept design that doesnt really grab me. Perhaps if they had come up with some races of fantasy minis based on their own concepts instead of generic ones like dwarfs, orcs, dark elf, undead etc, i would be more interested. i just feel its like nothing i… Read more »
Hmmm do I buy the new plastic GW sorceress or the new metal Mantic sorceress? Hmm…
