Defend Erebor With New Dwarves From Games Workshop
February 25, 2013 by brennon
Games Workshop haven't just been summoning Daemons this month. They have also been looking to the defense of Erebor with new Dwarves, Men and Elves for The Hobbit. Check them out below...
First up we have the warriors from Erebor and Dale. I am a particular fan of the Dwarves by default but they aren't as good looking as the Grim Hammers. The Men of Dale are pretty good and not how I thought they would look at all. Even in the film I was surprised by the style of them!
And on the character front we have a new Grim Hammer Captain, Elrond's Counsellor Lindir, and the mighty Thror. The Grim Hammer Captain has something a little weird about his face that I can't place. It looks off centre to me! Lindir looks like an almost standard Elf with nothing particular to set him apart from anything else.
Thror on the other hand is amazing! I love how he looks and the stance he is in, ready to take on the Orcs swarming about his gates. I am certainly picking him up.
What do you think of these Hobbit releases?

Oh dear. The Grim Hammer Captain seems to have hit himself in the face with his weapon of choice. Not the best painted miniature GW have done either Overall the models look okay.. But they just seem to pale in comparison to the LoTR models imho. The quality seemed more consistent too. Some of these look decidedly under par next to their mates. The Dalesmen may be suffering from a lack of diversity in the gene pool. Their faces look like the result of a tad too much inbreeding. The Warrior of Erebor, second from the right, bottom row, looks… Read more »
It’s a big gamble. The first film hasn’t generated nearly as much excitement as Lord of the Rings and the only mass battle (in the book at least) is still 2 films away.
Yeah… Many people were put off by the film, seeing that it was intended for a younger audience and that there’s like five disney dwarf songs in the first half hour…
:O Romain!! you take that back, I thought it was awesome film and went to see it twice. Admittedly I took my little 9yr old nephew, but it was fun and fast paced I thought. Doesn’t help that I have an IQ of a 2yr old sticking marbles up his bum though, hehe. Hope you like the next one matey. I hope everyone likes it, its a huge shame if you don’t as I think it has such a huge impact on our hobby and how we perceive it. I can see how it appears to a different audience though.… Read more »
Didn’t say I didn’t like it ! 🙂
That said, yeah… It was a little too much, sometimes.
ok then, Ill let you have that one. 🙂 I was just taken aback buy how different it was from LotR, think thats why I liked it though, a lot of similarities but enough to make my little brain twitch at all the differences 🙂
Are any of the songs about gold? 🙂
Don’t blame GW on this one. That Grim Hammer Captain us just getting over a few dozen drinks the morning before. The got that hang over look down to a tee 😉
This is all part of the new GW policy : no more illustrations on the cover of WD, no more good paint-jobs… Only tabletop and ‘eavy metal style that’s attainable by a 12 year old.
They’re the target after all…
And of course, there’s the price.
I would be disappointed, but I’ve stoppedexpecting anything from GW a while ago.
Will people finally stop buying GWs crap now? cmon already … 😛

Dear me. Lindir appears to have spent too much time at the Lembas and Miruvor snack-bar. He looks like a podgy Bill Nighy. Now there’s a thought: Slartibartfast as Elrond’s chief adviser?!
The Lindir model is disappointing – especially given the finely featured actor who played him (one of the guys from Flight of the Conchords, I believe?). However, the Thror model is very nice.
I think it’s unfair to dismiss all of The Hobbit models as inferior to the LotR stuff released previously. Certainly, it’s a mixed bag – but the giant eagles, for instance, are far superior to the chunky beasts released for the original game.
Really ?
Well, I’ll grant you that the eagles were superior to what was there before, but they don’t do a thing for me…
I did not like the goblins at all (they could have done them better while still being consistent with the movie) and the rest is same-ish at best, IMHO.
Yeah, there’s not a lot I would say to defend the goblins that come with the core set. They’re fugly little lumps.
But I do still like the eagles…
I liked the Hobbit. It was lighter than the Lord of the RIngs, but did have those tense moments of epicness.
