A Dark Elf Nemesis & Her Entourage From Avatars Of War
January 30, 2014 by brennon
Avatars of War have shown off some more miniatures for the world of Warthrone. The Dark Elves are flooding out in force it seems and below you can check out their Concubine of Nemesis and the full regiment of shrieking ladies...
First up we have the Concubine of Nemesis who might regret putting that whip between her legs. It would probably be fine if it wasn't covered in barbs. This is not a bad model, but it's certainly nothing incredibly special either.
The Dark Elf regiment itself is looking very good indeed though, as we find with most of the Avatars of War range. It doesn't come cheap of course but you do get a full twenty models for your money.
The models themselves are very wild looking with plenty of options for customisation it seems too. Perfect for those of you who are trying to boost your Dark Elf army.
What do you think?

I agree on the regiment – But I do wish they had used a less busy background on the 2 last photos
Mouths look weird, have they deliberately covered the mouth in that close up?
Well they at least are way cheaper then GW ones. 20 figures for 35 euro instead of 45 euro for 10 figures is fine with me.
Order now, before they disappear from the site, especially if you need them for a game in 2015.
Nice movement on these. But they have that whole unrealistic chainmail bikini thing going on, and look like they are crowding the bondage/S&M corner of a red light district… at least they’re not in heels.
I don’t find price an issue with AoW stuff, and the quality is consistently better than that of their GW counterparts.
That concubine mini is of a significantly lower quality than I’ve come to expect from AoW. Even putting aside the absolutely terrible pose (which speaks for itself, I think), the figure’s appendages look like blocky polygonal renders from a mid 90’s video game and the surface of her skin is obviously textured by a crappy mold. It’s as if they weren’t even trying to make this look good. The troops are pretty standard dark elf fare. Sadly, that’s standard. AoW didn’t do anything spectacular with them (and they didn’t push any boundaries or try to present something different than just… Read more »
I completely agree. This doesn’t work for me. I’ve seen much better from these guys.
It would seem that Felix isn’t as talented a sculptor of elves as he is dwarfs. I do also wonder whether all the issues with resin casting and fulfilling orders/the IGG campaign have meant these haven’t had the time put into them that they could have had. Felix has said that these had to be made before dealing with the backlogue so that AoW would remain solvent. That said, the unit is of comparable quality to GW’s dark elves so given they price, I’d probably go to AoW ahead of GW if I ever wanted a DE army. The character… Read more »
I would say the unit seems OK, though it is generic looking for Dark Elves, that is to say lots of very skinny women with very limited clothing. The picture is zoomed out a lot, so it is hard to see the detail of the models which makes it rather suspect. The concubine looks just bad, there even looks like flash on the model though that could be just bad picture editing.
I’ll agree with all the above, I really like alternative models, does good to everyone I believe. Companies get better and hobbyists get more (in all senses). I like having an additional choice to what I find extremely expensive, but the price is still up there I think. What’s worse, even if these score some good points (I like the banner a lot!), they fall very much behind, looking at them from the left, their legs and knees are way too …whatever. I don’t know if this has anything to do with AoW moving to cheaper quality plastic or not.… Read more »
The regiment looks good from a distance but when you look closely at the individual minis, these are not great sculpts.
I like to think of them as Twilight Kin, but I do agree, this isn’t my favorite set of offerings from AoW. I would prefer the Dark Elf range from Gamezone.
While I like the slightly great range of poses, they are to my view about the same as the GW ones – they lack a wow factor. Other parts of their range is vastly superior.
The concubine seem more focus on providing a ‘perv’ factor than it does in present a interesting sculpt. A bit of a shame really – although I would agree their elves tend to be the ‘weaker’ of their models to my view at least.
