What Did You Get for Christmas?
December 27, 2011 by dracs
Well another Christmas has come and gone and now is the time to play with our shiny new toys.
I will definitely be kept busy this year with my own prezzies.
The Discworld Ankh-Morpork board game and a few minis from Micro Art Studio will allow me indulge in my Discworld fanaticism, while the Storm of Magic book should hopefully give me a reason to dust off my old Lizardmen army.
But what we want to know is what did Santa bring you guys?
Did you get that Land Raider you wanted?
Did you decide to ask for something to help get you into a completely new game?
Or were you naughty this year and Santa just left you some socks?
Drop us a comment and let us know how your Christmas gaming went.

I got a pack of socks 🙁
They weren’t even men socks! OH but I did get my back waxed! Thats a good thing trust me.
my mother in law got me a Khador manhunter, result
I got some liquid greenstuff to help fix my melted finecast skulltaker:(
Me got the first Ciaphas Cain omnibus for xmas (ain’t a huge thing here in Belgium), and a dust tactics heavy assault walker for my space marine chapter for my birthday.
Erm let me see, I got Warpath Fate of the Forge Fathers, A load of Bushido Miniatures, A load of Free Booters fate stuff from the guys at Free Booters Fate (thanks Christian!!!) and thankfully nobody brought me either Dreadfleet or Storm of Magic. 😛
I got DVDs of old musicals and plays (“Brigadoon”, “The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle”, some French plays…).
What ? There’s more to life than minis… lol

As far as French playwrights go, I’m only familiar with Moliere and Ionesco. Nice to see someone reading plays that weren’t written by Shakespeare (barf)
Bloody love Ionesco.
BoW Sam
You like reading it, of watching the plays ? Few people really are into absurd theater… Then again, it’s a certain view of life that would appeal to a Pratchett fan… I’ve read Rhinoceros and The Bald Soprano, and seen Waiting for Godot by Beckett, and I like it a lot, but I’m not really passionate about it. The regularly mount the Bald Soprano in Paris (I don’t mean it as it sounds, you know…). Maybe I should check it out… after I get to see Frankenstein Junior (the musical), for which I was given tickets for christmas ! And…… Read more »
I’ve read Rhinoceros and the Chairs by Ionesco. Seen Waiting for Godot and Not I by Beckett. Have also read and seen No Exit by Sartre, one of my particular favourites.
And for the record I love Shakespeare, especially the Tempest. And I particularly like renaissance comedies like The Rivals by Sheridan.
BoW Sam
Aaaah, the Tempest… A play about the crossing of worlds !
My favorite !
Sir, you have good taste !
BoW Romain
I like going to see plays that I’ve read. When I go see a play, I am usually more interested in how the actor/director brings new meanings to the text through performance. I’m very much in the “multiple readings” camp, and I’m always surprised and delighted to see how people interpret characters and scenes. I mostly read Renaissance Drama. City Comedy is where it’s at for me (which is why I kind of stay out of Shakespeare). I’m more interested in people who wrote about every day life…like Jonson… I do love Middleton, Marlowe, Dekker, Heywood and all of Shakespeare’s… Read more »
My most intellectual gift was the Guiness World Records 2012. I can’t realy help on the subject of plays. Though I agree I like the Tempest, and well all I’ve really done is Shakespeare and Frankenstein. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a good novel, so is To Kill a Mockingbird. Only just starting my English GCSE’s, and I much prefer novels to plays. I enjoy them more. Mainly because I don’t see the point in reading plays. Plays are there to be acted? But anyway more on the subject I got 2 boxes of scouts (one normal one sniper)… Read more »
Detonator you have good taste in novels. I’m doing BA Hons English at university. This is my final year and I’m considering doing a study of Jeckyll and Hyde for my final dissertation. The gothic horror and science fiction of the 18th and 19th centuries is one of my favourite eras of literature. If your interested in Frankenstein and the like I would suggest The Castle of Otranto. The most influential gothic novel ever. Not the best by any means, but the most influential. Good to go back and see where it all started.

@elromanozo, if we’re talking culture, then I got a shed load of leather bound novels, classics I used to read when I was younger. I was actually really touched because a few years back my novel collection got massively water damanged 🙁 so imagine my surprise when I got Jules Verne collection, Illiad, Divine Comedy, Edgar Allan Poe Collection, HG well novels and loads more. I’ve pretty much got all my favourite books back in better hardback editions. I honestly was choked, silly I guess but she who must be obeyed every now and then pulls an absolute stormer and… Read more »
First of all well done on slipping the Rumpole reference in there. Second, I kinda know how you feel, my Dad got me this seriously beautiful old series of books on British and Greek mythology.
Having a bit of a “book fetish” myself, I totally understand where you’re coming from. I love my old leather-bound copy of D.G. Rossetti’s poems, even though it’s not the best edition out there. Nice books just have a certain feel to them, and I’ll sometimes buy one copy to read and one copy to keep in good condition. My wife has to keep me out of the rare bookstore…..right now I’m fighting the urge to go buy a complete set of Jonson’s Works which was edited in 1815…if I ever found a copy of the 1616 folio…I’d have to… Read more »
I once found a 17th century edition of Pepys’ diaries. Was in the largest second hand book shop in Northumberland. price was in the thousands.
Guy who first introduced me to Shakespeare’s contemporaries had a hand pressed folio copy of Jonson’s works. Apparently there was a cat living in the print shop, cause you can see it’s inky footprints throughout the book. My current supervisor has leaves from original Shakespeare quartos framed and hanging on the wall in her living room (which seems like a waste to me). I’d be willing to spend money for the RIGHT rare book. When you consider that my “Collected Works of Middleton” with “Textual Companion” cost around 400$….the 1815 edition of Jonson’s complete works is not that much more… Read more »
