Bring Triumph & Treachery to Warhammer Fantasy
October 29, 2013 by dracs
Warhammer Fantasy is, and forever will be, my first love in gaming, so the addition of a new supplement should be an interesting addition to my games. Get ready as Games Workshop bring Triumph and Treachery to Warhammer Fantasy.
This new expansion for Warhammer provides players with rules for playing games with three to five players, bringing to play all manner of sneaky, underhanded tactics like bribery and the hiring of mercenaries.
The book itself looks top notch and comes with a deck of 36 Treachery cards and a drawstring bag of Victory Tokens, which allow you to keep track of the game as well be spent on bribes.
At first the idea of a seperate set of rules for gaming with more players seems kind of superfluous. The Warhammer rules are already easily adaptable to larger games and such games are always good fun to play.
However, the inclusion of underhanded tactics is something I particularly like the sound of. Using dirty tricks like bribery fits in well with the Warhammer world and adds an extra layer of narrative to the game, always a plus in my opinion. I am particularly hopeful about the inclusion of mercenaries, as the presence of the Dogs of War has been something I have sorely missed in Warhammer Fantasy.
What do you guys think? Is this ultimately unneeded, or will it prove a fun addition to your gaming?

Finally – the perfect excuse to get some of those models from other armies you’ve always coveted – or plug your army’s weaknesses with mercenaries.
For example – how about some Tomb King Ushabti bows to provide range for my otherwise range-less (cygor excepted) Beastmen?
Well you can do that in Storm of Magic games, what I am hoping for are specific character units like Rugluk’s Armoured Orcs or Long Drong’s Slayer Pirates. Especially hope for the Slayer Pirates to make a return as I still have a whole unit of them knocking around.
missed Dogs of War so much! looks really interesting this in terms of narrative alone, be nice to do some Age of the Three Emperors games, utilising all the treachery and subterfuge between different Imperial armies supplemented with allies hehee I’m liking this!
Hmm…. The main rule book gives rules for combining armies from different army books.I think this is the sort of thing that I will try and get my club to buy as you only need one copy to play and it would seem to lend itself to larger games/tables.I have storm of magic but hardly use it now as most people at my club tend to want to have a more straight forward game that you can finish in a few hours and as I work shifts I don’t get much gaming in at the weekend.
It’s raining supplements and codices…at 50£.
Ermmmmmmm £50? That has to close to a joke right?
This was bought as a club purchase and I had my first game tonight. We played a 4 way game 1000pts each no mercs yet. I have to say we had a lot of fun with lots of backstabbing. I would be disappointed if I had purchased the book on my own but would recommend splitting the cost with some mates once you have all read the rules and it won’t take long, all you need are the cards and tokens. It makes for a game that’s played as much off the table as on it. There is a lot… Read more »
