Baba Yaga Comes to Life with Vesper-On Games
October 15, 2012 by brennon
The creepy Baba Yaga who was a stretch goal in Vesper-on Games' Carnevale IndieGoGo Campaign has taken shape. Check out the Work-in-Progress miniature that was previewed at the end of last week...
A fantastic looking sculpt already and I can't wait to see what this looks like painted up. This creepy lady, crawling from within what looks to be a water pipe is bound to unleash hell on the streets of Venice.
Remember that while Vesper-On might have already smashed their target, you can keep pledging!
What do you think of Baba Yaga?

This creepy lady is based on the witch of Russian folklore who would fly around in a giant mortar and pestle. That ain’t water, that’s blood. One of the main parts of Baba Yaga in Carnevale is that she is pretty much fuelled by you sacrificing the life points of your own men.
Decades later and she still creeps me out from fairy tales when i was 5. And what’s with that insane walking house in a nightmare of forest. Do I have to get this and paint it as therapy??????
Yeah Russian folklore is messed up. What with Baba Yaga and Koschei the Deathless. Of course it could be worse. Could be the Japanese Yokai. They have the slash mouth woman and heads attached to flaming wheels which drag people who see them to hell.
Do want and don’t even play Carnevale (sadly)
It manages to capture old school illustration imho and very well done.
@toofless haha The witch’s house with chicken legs!
Reminds me of my ex-wife cleaning our toilet for the first time.
Actually, love the whole mortar and pestle Baba Yaga thing. One complaint. The face is actually a bit too pretty. I envision something much more gnarly, craggy, and hideous when I think of Baba Yaga.
iirc The drawing was more aggressive and a bit craggier.
FWIW Reaper do a pretty cool little Baba-Yaga too, but not in her mortar.

The SMOG 1888 treelike version is also of note…
