Avatars of War Head into the Depths of the Dinosaur Jungle
May 16, 2012 by brennon
Avatars of War may be focusing a lot of their attention onto the Apocalyptic Warriors of Chaos, but they are continuing their Arena Deathmatch project with a rather large Lizard...
This is the latest Work-in-Progress shots of their massive Lizard Man drawing from influences in Aztec and other South American cultures. Weapons for this beast are still being worked on, but the overall consensus seems to be for a double bladed weapon. You can follow along with the design of this beast on their forums here.
As well as this there are whisperings of some Apocalyptic Dwarves on the horizon from Avatars of War.
Are you liking the look of this snarling lizard?

Thats one great looking dinoman. There is so much nice detail in that sculpt.
I love that head – the array of spikes and the fierce open tooth-filled maw is very aggressive and impressive. Straight out of Jurassic Park. The body is well-muscled and looks very tough (the spikes on the back are a nice touch), but the legs seem a little small to go with it making the sculpt look a bit gorilla-like in pose. Still I like the idea of a hulking hunched forward lizardman, so this gets the thumbs up from me.
The obliques look a bit odd from that one picture, otherwise it’s a pretty nifty looking model.
Not that it can be compared to anything realistic as it is a fantastical dinosaur man wielding a club but still…
The obliques just stick out too much for my liking, shave a bit off mr sculptor, please, for my sanity!
Now that’s what a lizardman big dude should look like. So far I say it’s better than GW’s version.
Agreed, Kroxigors are really crusty looking at this point. When you look at some of the art coming out of GW and Forgeword you really get a sense of how old some of these models are….and Kroxigors are a great example for this. The major issue, however, is that unless Kroxigors get redone sometime soon, we’ll probably see them in finecast….and once you factor in prices…..I really don’t see any reason why people wouldn’t go with the AoW version. I’m really happy with all my AoW stuff….they really do make a good product.
Kroxigors are no longer available on the US website; I think they’re set to be made in Finecast, unless Lizardmen is going to be the next Warhammer army to be updated.
That would look really impressive in a Lizard team for fantasy football games (minus weapon)
I like all the detailing, not bothered about the reality of muscles sizes and body shape, it’s a lizard dude with big fangs and spikey bits and he looks savage as hell. I imagine a deep red carnivorous tone over the head fading into dark greys striped with ivory across the back of the torso and tail with a pastel cream underbelly. Definitely a model on my wishlist for the future.
