Star Wars: Legion Painting VLOG – Part 9
February 17, 2018 by johnlyons
I hope you didn't forget about Luke and Darth Vader as we start to wrap up this project.
Because we're so keen to get them on the table, I've kept both super simple again.
Check out the video to hear all the paints I used to get these guys tabletop ready.
I am pretty happy with Luke's hair which I did using Army Painter Desert Yellow and some Vallejo Game Air Bone White.
For the lightsabers, I chose to use some Ghost Tints to build up a couple of coats on a white base to give some nice variation.

Are you excited to see the full range on the tabletop?

Honestly, I did forget about the Skywalker gang. I got a pack of the ghost tint paints for Christmas, and am looking forward to using them. I may keep a hair dryer around to accelerate the drying time between coats. I think this series is a bit box to table for OSL, but boy does a bit of OSL add some nice effects for laser swords.
Really liked this VLOG. I’m planning on doing pretty much the same with mine.
Do you think GW wash’s will do the same for the lightsabers?
I like the finished results of this vlog. I’ll be following John’s paint selection and technics.
I’m jonesing to play the game so the quicker I get the painting done the better.
I dare say, these minis look better than about half of all the minis I’ve played against in tabletop games.
Thanks John, for producing this step by step Vlog!
Great tips for a quick army
maybe next time paint the sabers with Metallic medium from Vallejo (72074) first, to get that shin on them 🙂
great looking job.
i got a green, blue and red of these ghost tints and have found loads of uses for them. Saw John using them on the Astral knights, space marine helmet eyes lenses etc, and really like to use them.
Excellent work John – thanks. I might have to look at the ghost tints. I’ve seen quite a few people now using them and getting really nice results.
My only criticism of the minis so far is the thickness of the bases. They look really chunky compared to other suppliers. This is probably a case of function over form, since it will make it easier to ensure the measuring ruler aligns correctly, but I’m thinking I may change the infantry to thinner bases. They look to be 20mm – is that right?
