Star Wars: Legion Painting VLOG – Part 8
February 16, 2018 by johnlyons
I'm going back to the airbrush for Part Eight as I begin tackling the AT-ST and Airspeeder.
I found that using washes through the airbrush really helped with the dirty and streaky look on the AT-ST especially.
Dragon Red and Dark Sky were used on the Airspeeder prior to airbrushing.
Picking out the vents, mechanical areas and engine with the airbrush really is so quick and effective.

Looking great! If you end up going back to revisit these, you could try using Green Stuff World’s chameleon paint for the windows, possibly the cobalt blue.
@johnlyons So…what I do not get is this…the game is trying to get non minis wargamer into mini wargaming with a streamlined, easy way of playing and assembling….and of cause the Star Wars theme. Why show a quick and easy way of painting those minis…with an AIRBRUSH??? Is this vlog more aimed at seasoned mini gamers/painters? And if so…would it not have made more sense to aim it at new gamers/painters with minimal effort in work and material?
There will be no shortage of prime white and paint black tutorials out there. John had 3 days to do the whole lot and make them look good. So that was the main factor in the decision process.
And we are rapidly reaching the stage now where anyone can use a cheap airbrush setup for basecoating and basic zenith work 🙂
And during the launch window it will be the more seasoned gamers who are tuning in. Reaching lots of newcomers will take time 🙂
@warzan Well…if for the more seasoned gamer then airbrush is the way to go…no doubt about that. Still….this feels like a missed opportiunity to me. Personally I hope Legion has the potential to get quite a number of new gamers to the hobby with it simply being Star Wars. So…yes you are right…there will be lot´s of tutorials out there…but is this not a great oppertunity for you and your site to aim at those potential new players? Making them feel welcome and at home here for their new hobby to carry on? And doing this by aiming especially at… Read more »
@warzan I was wondering what you would consider cheap in regards to airbrushes?
There are sets on eBay these days airbrush and compressor for around 50 quid or so.
For basecoating, basic zenith and running washes through for weathering they should be grand 🙂
They won’t run for long periods though.
But considering guys in the scale model hobby have been using tyre inner tubes these sets are not bad.
@warzan Thanks for that. I have never really needed or wanted one so was just curious what people would consider cheap
