Star Wars: Legion Painting VLOG – Part 4
February 14, 2018 by johnlyons
In this video we're moving on from airbrushing the infantry and AT-ST, onto the colours that I've used to bring out the details in the other models and then I paint up some Stormtrooper details.
Starting with Vader himself I've brought him up slightly from Matt Black using a light air brush of Uniform Grey.
For the Rebels, we've gone from Army Painter Fur Brown to Vallejo Air Khaki.
The AT-RT has gone from Uniform Grey to Ash Grey, giving it a more muted colour when compared to the AT-ST, to help look a little less well maintained.
For detailing the Stormtroopers I'm keeping it simple using Vallejo Model Colour Black to pick out the under armour areas and lens.

Do you have any techniques for painting with white and black?

Vader’s helmet lenses should be red.
Very dark red
So dark you wouldn’t notice? If they are dark red in the films then that’s news to me. 😛
@johnlyons,

They are tinted amber, but often appear red due to lighting and/or proximity to his ignited light saber.
Checked on the net most of the picture’s were shiny black with some looking red or blue for some reason ( the flash?) For Darth’s eye’s.
I love the techniques and approach you’re taking with the storm troopers, real simple and I’m anticipating that they will have a really good tabletop quality when finished! I think I’m going to have to do the same.
Why mess around with more time consuming techniques when this makes them look as good as they need to? Ok, you could add a little pin wash of grey to add some definition if you felt like it. But I think they suit this look pretty well 🙂
Nice video on the figures colours.
That auto focus at the start gave me motion sickness, great progress though.
Not sure if you’d consider it as an easy way to upgrade it or not, but one great thing for Lightsabers is to replace the plastic with the acryllic rods of the right size and color. Done that for just about every Star Wars minis game I’ve played or done minis for. Mainly the WEG and WotC ones along with a few of the Knight Models ones…didn’t do much with Imperial Assault since my brother went all in with that and it’s his project that I didn’t need to pay for to play it, but he did the same there.
