Star Wars: Legion Painting VLOG – Part 1
February 13, 2018 by johnlyons
Hi everyone, and welcome to a brand new project Vlog! Star Wars Legion from Fantasy Flight Games is here, so now I'm getting stuck into painting the armies of the Rebels and the Empire.
To start us off, I decided to show you how these minis go together by taking a look at the two heroes from the core set; Darth Vadar and Luke Skywalker.
Like father, like son, both of these minis went together really well and give you a good idea of what the rest of the infantry minis are like.
In the next Vlog, we'll get to look at the entire force (note force with an "f", not an "F") and have a talk about priming and where we will be taking them from there.

Looking forward to this, really enjoying the Star wars content so far.
Excited to see the process, having seen some of the finished mini’s in the Let’s Play 😀 .
Looking forward to seeing how you tackle the white of the stoormtroopers. I’m considering a grey undercoat then block painting the white leaving the grey in the recesses then a gloss coat befor adding the black parts and weathering.
Looking forward to this VLOG. I preordered the core box so this will help me to get them on the table as fast as I can.
@johnlyons, tell me, when you assembled the AT-ST, was the first thing you did was to sit it next to the AT-AT? That’s what I would have done.
I didn’t. The first thing I did was smile then decide I want one of my own.
I’d recommend checking out the Bandai kits. They make a 1/48 scale AT-ST that is about the same size and hat tons of detail including a full interior.
Looking forward to these.
Particularly interested in to what extent do the joints need filling?
These ones looked pretty snug but have seen some that look a bit gappy!
I want to see what you do with the light sabers. I found this paint powder some time ago https://culturehustle.com/collections/powders/products/lit-the-worlds-glowiest-glow-pigment-100-pure-lit-powder-by-stuart-semple
and have wanted to give it a try given it is suppose to be so intense it glows in daylight as well as dark.
Some of the models have quadrants. It will be interesting how you keep those quadrants after flocking them as they are required for certain firing arcs short of just having a line down the side of the base.
Have seen some other painting videos, not sure I would have glued Luke’s arms as I believe it is easier to paint him with arms off at first.
How are the models for clean up, mold lines, flash, etc…?
I think they looks pretty good to me. But if you were to take your time there is the odd bit of cleanup, but it really is minimal.
Awesome buddy, cheers. You didn’t mention in the video which side your leaning towards.
Luke falls off his base? Is that Johns first blunder on camera? 😛
Nice to see the minis are easy to fit together, but a bit of a shame theres not much of a chance to add uniqueness to your army by being able to pose them without hacking them up and greenstuffing the hell out of them.
Nice looking minis though. Cant wait for more. 🙂
You don’t remember the Tyranid Hierophant build then. Dropping F bombs left and right in that old gem 😉
I was trying to build you up dude. Shhhh…
Since you have doubles of the Rebel and Trooper poses , could you try a couple of arm swaps for variety? I assume if the arm plugs are trimmed a bit , and the shoulder width of all the Troopers are the same ( like the old Airfix Multi Pose ) it should work . Not too sure if the Rebels are going to be as easy to do .
Looks good so far. Two questions arose. The first one would have been about mold line. But you already answered it above @johnlyons .
But why did you use superglue on a plastic mini and not plastic cement? Just to be faster on the video? For that unique fingerprint camo 😀 ? Or another reason I’m not thinking of at the moment.
The plastic its made from doesn’t take plastic cement too well, from what I have gathered. I may be wrong but it feels more like the harder plastic you find in Warmahordes.
Every unboxing/how-to video I’ve watched so far – They all build Vader first.
But John, ATAT’s can be fun!

Nice Well detailed looking figures.
Thanks for the vid John, it’s going to be a fun week!
Can’t wait to see the part with the sabers too, because i’m thinking about colored plastic rods (think necrons…) for myself at the moment.
Shouldn’t watch this. It will be hard to resist not buying them. But it is Star Wars.
Can’t wait!
Can’t wait to see them all finished.
Very nice intro, dropping Luke 🙂 I am trying so hard to resist this one but it is Star Wars 🙁
I’m getting twitchy watching everyone unbox these minis. Can’t wait tell mine ordered sets get here in March!
