May The 4th Be With You! Star Wars Day On Beasts Of War
May 4, 2016 by brennon
Today is a special day for everyone who loves the world of Star Wars as it's May The 4th Be With You! Hopefully there's something Star Wars related happening near you or within your own home today.
If you're looking to embrace Star Wars on the tabletop however come and see what we've been doing...
X-Wing - Strike On Endor Battle Report
First off we have our massive Strike On Endor/Endor Aftermath Live Blog Battle Report where we designed our own scenario and then played out an in-atmosphere battle between the Rebels and what was left of the Empire. It was a lot of fun.
You can read more about how Killian tweaked the rules HERE.
Star Wars: Endor Aftermath Rules Download
As well as that we also then made the rules available for you to download. So, if you have some spare terrain and a few ships you can give this a go tonight when you're back home!
It was a lot of fun coming up with exactly how the land units were going to move around and the scenario you play out is a tightly fought contest!
Star Wars Pocket Models
A while back now Oriskany also came up with some ways in which you could take Star Wars onto the tabletop while using Pocket Models.
You can learn more by following his article series and maybe you could give this a go over the weekend.
Building The Hoth Table
One of our biggest project, and something that managed to make it all the way across the Atlantic, was the Hoth table we built and designed a scenario around. You can see the table in all it's glory below...
This was a massive success at Salute and AdeptiCon this year with people really enjoying playing the game as well as looking at it.
Watch these VLOGS where we also delved into more detail when it came to building the table HERE and HERE.
Sorastro's Painting - Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Last but certainly not least we have to give a shout out to Sorastro's Painting who has been creating some amazing looking tutorials showing off how to paint the models from Imperial Assault. In this one he paints Darth Vader.
You can find more painting tutorials on the link above and by heading over to his Youtube channel.
An X-Wing Doodle!
Our very own Lance also painted up a rather nifty X-Wing...
I reckon that the Tony Hart and the Artbox Bunch would be rather happy with this one. Well done chap!
Other Star Wars Awesomeness
As well as what's here on Beasts of War you might want to also check out these neat games...
- Star Wars: Rebellion - A fantastic two player board game where you fight out the struggles of the original trilogy.
- Star Wars: Imperial Assault - Play as heroes or villains in this dungeon crawler style game. You can see our review of the game HERE!
- Star Wars: Armada - Fly massive capital ships like the Star Destroyer and blast the rebel scum from the skies. Check out our review HERE!
You might also want to check out this epic fan film called Darth Maul: Apprentice...
...and of course the trailer for the new Rebel One film!
We hope that's given you a lot of interesting avenues to explore on Star Wars Day.

You know, you should put your Hoth Table back together, or some of it at least, and try a game of Imperial Assault on it
I believe it’s currently out in the Midwest. It’d also need to be gridded first to be able to play IA on it.
I think the interior sections of the board had a rudimentary grid simply as a result of the material.
There were random bits of the Mantic battlezone terrain dropped as flooring here and there. At least, I was putting them down randomly lol.
Every day is a day to celebrate Star Wars, but May the 4th is the day to really step it up! We watched the movies over and over when I was little. My brother (5years younger than me) was the king of misquoted. We still tease him to this day. His best line is when Han Solo talks about making the jungle light speed (the jump to light speed) or when Ben Kenobi states, “who’s more the fool? The fool, or the fool of politics (follows him)? There was also laying underneath the fake/plastic Christmas tree and playing with Star… Read more »
Cool, plenty of star wars content.
I’ll check it out later: I have a game of x-wing in half an hour.
Awesome article. I’m embarrassed to say I forgot all about Mary 4 until I saw this. And wow, the old Pocket Models article series, talk about a blast from the past. Although our Hoth and Endor tables look pretty sad now compared to the Hoth table at Salute and the X-Wing Endor table. 😀

long live the republic.
He, he… it’s my home. Every day there is something Star Wars related going on. It’s unavoidable, really. Even if I’m not at home. Sure. Haven’t had my old posters of the Emperor blasting away on the second Death Star and the Mara Jade Pin Up *ahem* adorning my walls for several years now. But then again I make an effort for them to look quite imperial white-ish and rakish… Also, there is usually a Star Wars novel anywhere near in a book shelf. And always near at hand are the volumes of my beloved Dark Empire and Boba Fett… Read more »
While we’re at it… Ah, yar, I am, at least. Rummaging through Star Wars quotes for some of my favourite expressions, scenes, and charcters for that matter, led to an odd revelation for me. There you go: “Everything is proceeding as I have forseen.” “Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design.” “Now, witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station.” “Strike me down with all of your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete.” “Pay the price for your lack of vision.” Obviously it’s the one and only Emperor… Read more »
I loved those pocket model games!
Though I refuse to be intimidated by the BoW Hoth board (Kick a** as it was). I mean they did have a team of at least 6 full time hobbyists working on it for months. The Pocket model board was assembled over a weekend and had to be moved back and forth to the gaming club every weekend.
I had some X-Wing items arrive on May 4th… and now I must order the Heroes of the Resistance (Am I the only person who cannot hear the word ‘Resistance’ without adding ‘is Futile’?)
Mixed up Paradigms…
