New Ships Boost The X-Wing Miniatures Game From Fantasy Flight
August 2, 2015 by brennon
As if you didn't know this was coming. Some new ships are coming to X-Wing: The Miniatures Game from Fantasy Flight Games. See what you think of these New Ships below, most of which you'll never have heard of! There's then another model, much bigger, to look forward too...
Crazy New Ships
We kick things off with a look at Ghost which not only come with the aforementioned ship but also the smaller Phantom too. Rules will be included within the set allowing you to field these ships as intended.
"The galaxy's most famous VCX-100 – and likely the hardest to detect – the Ghost is a massive, heavily armored, and heavily shielded Rebel vessel that just barely makes it into the game as a large-base ship for Standard Play.
That's not to say that it doesn't still provide a huge impact; the Ghost Expansion Pack brings this pre-painted VCX-100 to life at 1/270 scale as a powerhouse hitter that packs a massive stat line of four attack, zero agility, ten hull, and six shields!"
Next up we turn to the Imperials with the Inquistor's TIE which was used by Darth Vader's trusted servant to hunt down the remaining Jedi.
"Aptly suited to the Inquisitor's formidable skills and the seriousness of his mission, the TIE Advanced prototype featured faster engines, folding s-foils, and a missile launcher capable of firing XX-23 S-Thread Tracers to track prey across the galaxy."
Scum & Villainy are getting two new ships which are also looking very nice indeed. See what you make of the Mist Hunter first off which is a rather interesting looking ship...
"The renowned Gand findsman Zuckuss and his signature G-1A starfighter arrive to X-Wing in the Mist HunterExpansion Pack. A modified Byblos Drive Yards G-1A starfighter, the Mist Hunter offered Zuckuss and his droid partner, 4-LOM, all sorts of ways to surprise and capture their prey.
The ship's specialized repulsor lift technology made it surprisingly versatile, and its armament included both a tractor beam and twin assault lasers."
This is followed by a Bounty Hunter ship which was tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the Millennium Falcon after The Battle Of Hoth, Punishing One...
"Similarly, the Punishing One was also much more than the lightly-armed and crescent-shaped JumpMaster 5000 that it seemed to be. Outfitted with an improved engine bay and upgraded weapons systems, which included torpedo launchers and an astromech gunner, the Punshing One, like its owner, traded away its flair in favor of blunt force."
Transporting TIEs?
Lying in wait we have the Gozanti-Class Cruiser which is quite the ship. It is fairly big too as you might imagine since it has two TIE Fighters that ACTUALLY clip in underneath it allowing you to transport them on the tabletop and then launch against the rebel scum...
"A highly versatile and heavily armed starship, the Gozanti-class cruiser could function as either a freighter or a cruiser and was used by various organizations across the galaxy. The Empire made extensive use of the Gozanti, though their cruisers featured heavier armor, faster engines, and better weapons than standard versions.
Additionally, Imperial engineers added docking clamps to the ship’s design that allowed it to carry a complement of escort fighters."
That's quite a lot of new ships to look forward to with X-Wing which means they aren't running short of ideas for the game. With that in mind they teased that Force Awakens WILL hold new things for the entire of their Star Wars line-up but what it is, we don't know yet.
Keep an eye on X-Wing!

To be honest, I think X-Wing is beginning to start it´s way down. Don´t get me wrong: I really love the game, I have plenty of ships on my shelf because I bought every large ship twice (except the shuttle) and I got at least three of each small ship. It is fun to play and has a very active tournament-scene over here in Germany. Looking at the last two releases (above and the one that is actually shipping), none of them pushed the button for me and for the first time, I cancelled my pre-order and invested my money… Read more »
I feel you are not enough into the Star Wars universe or in other words – the Force is weak with you.
I got the same feeling with the last wave. I don’t care about the capabilities of the ships, if I haven’t seen them in the movies or Rebels I won’t buy them.
But this wave at least has canon designs, I don’t think I like the fighter carrier mechanic. Its a little too far from the Dogfighting focus of the game. Probably X-wing has plateaued.
You see, that is exactly what I meant. If you like Star Wars based only on movies then it may feel odd for you to see those ships, however, if you like to read books or comics then they are almost as iconic as Millenium Falcon. Because how can you dislike ship on which droid 4-LOM was learning intuition from Zuckuss, or the ship that Boba Fett ended on after killing Sarlacc (which also partly digested him) and became Dengar’s partner and best man. Can you?
I will concede that to many the extended universe is valid Star Wars. And the examples you cite expand on secondary characters seen in the films. But The TIE-Punisher? The K-Wing? Not in MY Star Wars! The K-Wing doesn’t even look like Star Wars – it looks like a Wing Commander ship.
I wouldn’t say it’s on it’s way down, the problem is that they have exhausted all the well known ships from the films and the new ones are never before seen. Imagine if you had never seen a Tie, X-wing or Falcon ship before and had no love of the films to put them into context, I don’t think all gamers would still like them. This means fanboys like me (and I guess you) aren’t buying up all the ships for a collection, but instead gamers are having to think about what ships they want in their list and just… Read more »
The Gozanti and the Ghost both look excellent and I will pick up both for sure even though I’m mostly a Scum player. The Inquisitor’s TIE looks.. well, like another TIE with slightly different wings but that’s cool because that’s what most TIE variants look like. The Punishing One looks.. okay, I guess. There’s something very Space 1999 about it. But the Mist Hunter? Gah! It looks like someone stuck a giant spoiler on a helicopter gunship. I’m going to have to get them both, however, because they come with some interesting cards such a the Cloaking Device which might… Read more »
They have not invented the design… in fact, when I have seen the mist I have thought… “exactly as it is!!” You got to think that this ships are cannon, not an idea of their designers. Never saw the K-Wing (although being a hardcore fan since 1977) nor the punishr, but the mist hunter is a classical ship in the expanded universe. Take a look at how was depicted by Star Wars customizable card Game back in 1996 (I think):

It is perfet even for the angle! 🙂
I’m not saying FFG made it up. I’m saying they delved into the EU, picked a freaking ugly ship and faithfully reproduced it. Of course, the choice was largely made due to the ‘iconic’ nature of the owner / pilot rather than the aesthetic of the ship itself so I can see why they did it…
..but that Mist Hunter still makes my eyes bleed 😀
Oh I like those. I am guessing these might not arrive in the UK until near or soon after next Christmas but I can wait. Lots of other Star Wars goodness (and evil) to enjoy in the meantime 🙂
This is gonna be ideal to get my boys into x-wing. For them it’s all about rebels at the moment.
I’ll wait a couple of years before I watch the movies with the eldest, because sub-titles are still a bit hard for him.
Anything Scum related works for me, my fave faction is getting bigger all the time.
It’s nice to see FFG add some Star Wars Rebels love for X-Wing.
Yes the two first ones are from Rebels, the rest might have some tie (pun intended) ins there as well I only watched the 2 first episodes
I’ve not heard of any of these. Still want them all though. Oh well. Goodbye money.
I like Star Wars ships designs a lot. The game itself never drew me in.
there are episode VII X-wing ships on the way. I suspect a rebranded starters (with new ships) by Novemeber…maybe rebranding on the falcon too.
That would be cool. I’m really excited for the new movie. Of course I felt exactly the same 6 months before E1…
huh. that was a pretty cool guess on my part.
Another positive vote for Rebels!
