New Expansion Vehicles On The Way For Star Wars: Legion
October 25, 2017 by brennon
New expansion packs are on the way from Fantasy Flight Games in the new year for Star Wars: Legion. This time we're seeing some vehicles hitting the market after the main game goes live.
Leading the way we have the AT-ST for the Imperial players. This gives you a cool indication of some of the big models that we're going to be seen thrown into the mix to support each of the different factions for the game.
Going up against it we have the Airspeeder for the Rebels which is iconic for its role on the battlefields of Hoth.
It's going to be interesting seeing how one of these actually works on the tabletop since it is surely going to be going quite fast for most of the interactions on the tabletop?
Either way, it broadens the horizons for what's possible for this game. I mean...surely we should have an AT-AT down the line?
Bolstered Forces
As well as the vehicles above they also have some cool new additions to help add to the existing forces you'll have by the time you pick up the main game.
As well as the Rebel Troopers which you see above you will also find yourself getting your hands on the AT-RT which you saw in the set too. Adding more to your existing units, or building new ones will bulk out your force.
These are rather awesome, and whilst I don't really know about them from the movie world I think they are awesome for those looking to add some fire to their army of foot troops.
The Imperial player also gets some new Stormtroopers...
...and some wicked new Speeder Bikes for those chases through the woods in search of an Imperial bunker.
With some cool expansions around the corner; are you more tempted by Legion now that you know what's coming to support it?

They look awesome – if you like Star Wars of course (which I do!).
Interestingly I bought one of the Revell easy kit At-Ats and in terms of scale they’re probably a touch smaller than they should be relative to a 28mm model but they’re big enough that you get the sense of presence that an At-At would create. So I don’t see why FFG can’t make an AT-AT for Legion
I remember there being an interview with the guys at FFG about the AT-AT, and they said they were thinking about it, but (1) it was something for the far future and (2) it would probably be more of a terrain/objective piece than a gaming piece. An AT-AT is supposed to be something like 20+ meters in length and height. Given Legion is supposed to be on the larger size/scale than typical 28mm game, you are now talking a “miniature” thats almost 2ft in length and height. There concern was how do you game balance something that’s almost halfway across… Read more »
It’s no different to tanks in 40k, they’re not really to scale, especially Rhinos – no way can you fit 10 marines in a Rhino.
For reference this is the Revell AT-AT next to an AT-ST and Storm Trooper from Imperial Assault. I think it works

Totally agree about the snow speeder though. It’s a col model but I’m not really a fan of fixed wing aircraft in 28mm skirmish games.
I mean, are speeder bikes really any different? Based on the speeds those seem to move in return of the Jedi, they would cross a 6×4 in second. In general, between speeders, aircraft, AT-ATs, and others, SW tabletop always struck me as something to be done in 15mm.
It depends how they are played. You could role for them to come in, place them on the board for staffing runs (such as with Flames of War and similar)
Agree that something like that would work better than having the thing hovering around a 6×4 board, when it’s meant to be flying at 300mph
I like all the new stuff.
Only making the game more tempting, Speeders are very cool. Still want my ewoks to do a full Endor battle.
This gets better and better!
Many Bothan spies dies to bring you this news.
Be nice to have pictures of the vehicles with infantry for scale purposes…
Now to sit down and figure out if there’s better value in buying two starter boxes…
That’s exactly what I was thinking about. Between Legion and the JoA KS my wallet is going to hate me for some time to come.
Do we have an idea on expansion prices yet, this will determine if I will jump in on the game or not.
AT-ST $ 50 , Snow Speeder $ 30 , Bike , small walker and troop kits $ 25 , All prices US dollars from FFG website
I need all the Star Wars.
Those look really good.
Delivery of clean underwear required at BoW HQ please asap!
The Snowspeeder and the AT-ST are great but the fact that you get the same models in the trooper boxes that are already in the core set is a big letdown.
Trying to resist…. really trying….
Give in to the Dark Side….I know i’m going to 😀 .
Is it giving in to the Dark Side if I just by Rebel Alliance?
Lets call that ” Giving in to Star Wars ” ? All the benefits but no hate or Force Lightning.
Ewok glider! Ewok glider! Ewok glider!
This guy gets it
I dont like the Stormtrooper models. They are way too fat. The Rebels on the other side are pretty boring. To me this stuff sits even below Mantics Sci Fi range and Warlords Antares stuff looks better too. GW is in a whole other universe.
That last sentence is quite literally true 🙂
I think the reason for me to my surprise that the whole SW:Legion leave me rather cold, is being a massive SW fan growing up. Spending hours and hours with StarWars toys. So not only is this period of SW something mundane and nostalgic at the same time, so I feel no need to game it … even with a new cool rules system, you name it in that univers and I played it 😉
Might just get a snowspeeder and see if it changes my mind
I have excited moments then it swings back to but will it hit that same spot ? Undecided think it is a wait, try and see on the actual game mechanics and release schedule for me.
the snow speeder is epic
This is the game I have been waiting for since I knew Tabletop Wargames were a thing in about 1985. There is no way I am not getting all of the things.
Fortunately I have explained this to my wife, and she is very understanding on these matters.
while these are awesome, this doesnt really solve my issue with the game. Two factions only. I wish they released with at least four factions and made it clear about what factions are coming next. If I missed that news, please let me know.
This needs more Boba Fett! (Well like everything really)
Ideally as part of a third Scum and Villainy faction like xwing.
When this happens FFG can have all my money.
Yes right.. I guess this thing can just run and run, they have a whole universe and 40 yrs of material to work with.
I saw the models at Essen and had a demo game with a friend. The new models great. I am thinking of getting the ATST just to place on my desk. It looks slightly out of scale, but still ok. The Airspeeder however like just ridiculously small next to the infantry. I also agree that, since marketing died them to change the scale from IA, they should have gone smaller, not bigger and we would have seen truly epic SW battles. I was pumped for the demo, since I hoped to see a bit more than what we got to… Read more »
