Learn How To Fly The Big Ships Of FFG’s X-Wing

Fantasy Flight Games have put together some downloadable material allowing you to play X-Wing with those massive ships you've been seeing appear for their premier Star Wars game.
Above is the movement ruler for these Huge Ships and as you can see they are mammoth pieces of kit on the tabletop. I don't know much about the game of X-Wing but the article over on Fantasy Flight Games' website goes into a lot of detail and even shows off some of the cards they are using.
Of course having these huge ships comes with a massive cost and it will be interesting to see whether or not people use them in regular play or just for the likes of narrative campaigns and scenarios in tournaments.
Will you be using them?

I’ve got one of each on order since last year (have to abandon my “three of everything!” for the time being).
It’s been my understanding that games that use the capitol ships are operating under a separate ruleset, so you won’t be seeing these in people’s usual lists. It’ll be more like a second division of play. Which also raises the question about tourney types trying to play in both divisions… will there be time in a normal round of games? Hmm.
I really can’t imagine them NOT being used competitively somehow.
The part I find odd is how a big ship can just plow into a formation of tiny ships and take them out. I get that the physical mechanics of the game pieces make it difficult to keep track of evasions the same way you do with the smaller ships, but it just seems a little overpowered to veer my transport to the left and wipe out a couple of TIE Fighters that got too close. I would hope the larger ships take some kind of damage when that happens (from my glancing at the new rules, it doesn’t seem… Read more »
Wait, nevermind. Huge ships do take damage (potentially, it’s a die roll) when colliding with small and large ships. That still raises the specter of suicide TIEs though.
Green Leader 🙁
Intensify FORWARD FIRE POWER!
TOO LAAAAAAAATE!
I am looking forward to getting my hands on these – the Corvette has been a mental icon for me since I first saw it on the big screen (long long ago).
Of course ramming tactics work both ways 🙂
Had these on pre-order for a while with my flgs – looks like they maybe dropping sooner than expected and alongside the Wood Elves – awesome yet painful times
HOLY SH*IT 😮 !!!
Ever get the feeling you’re missing out not playing this game?
Hate to say it but there is every reason to give it a go, and little reason not too. Works as a casual pick up and play but scales up with different builds and combos. Only thing is missions are a little limited but these seem to change that.
Come to the dark side (Well I play rebels mainly but you get the idea)
I’m mostly a casual player so the small ships dogfighting thing suits me well. I can’t see having these big ships in my sort of game but they are very nice models and I’m delighted to see Fantasy Flight pushing the envelope with the SWM game.
I wonder would postmen and women have good fighter pilots? They are always pushing envelopes 🙂
GR75 arrived earlier this week, Tantive ordered today. 🙂
