Hold The Line With Star Wars: Legion 1.4 FD Laser Cannons & E-Webs! [Updated]
June 7, 2018 by brennon
The Rebels of Star Wars: Legion are getting themselves some ways to hold off the advance of so much armour with the 1.4 Laser Cannon Team by Fantasy Flight Games.
The new unit gives you a heavy weapons platform with which to threaten Veers as he marches those AT-ST walkers up the table towards you. You can take a peek at the cards for the unit to thanks to the preview...
As you might imagine it is very good at pounding the enemy with heavy fire, but it sacrifices the ability to move (of course). You will need to make sure this is lined up properly with the enemy before you unleash hell and watch your flanks!
The model looks very nice too and shows off a range of Rebel troopers in their heavier snow gear too.
Will you be picking up one of these to support your Rebels and keep their base out of the hands of the dastardly Imperials?
E-Web Heavy Blasters!
As well as the massive Laser Cannon above the Galactic Empire gets themselves the new E-Web Heavy Blaster Team.
This gun introduces raw firepower to the tabletop for the Empire, giving you a dangerous option for mowing down infantry. It has one red, two lack and two white dice at its command when it hits!
As you'll notice it is a bit more manoeuvrable than the big Laser Cannon above but you can either move or fire this emplacement - so it's going to have to be used tactically, just like the weapon for the Rebels.
The increased range of Standby with the Sentinel ability also means, much like with the cannon, that it's going to be able to keep your infantry safe as they advance.
Drop your thoughts below...

Nice. I’m guessing this means we must also be seeing a squad of rebels in snow gear soon. I wonder how useful these static weapons will prove to be.
As an imperial player I’m more interested in the E-web blaster.
Also interesting that these are the first releases with no hidden/blurry cards.
SO. MUCH. WANT!!!
Will happily add the Imperial one to my snowtroopers ranks
Now just need the rebel snow troops to go with their team and my Hoth setup is complete! 😀
Lovely 😀 .Looks like i’ll be building a small force for snow planet battles in the future.
Yay E-Web 😀 .My paint scheme picked out for the troopers will be ” Galactic Marines “,so now they get some fire support 😀 .
Take my money!
Very nice.
One of my favourite Star Wars weapons! Now if they’ll do the Ion Cannon too…
Yea, that’s going to be nasty when it hits. As it should.
great looking gun turret.
Really please to see more stuff for legion, although now I want rebel echo base troopers, and a ice world imperial force … dammit
But these wont fit my Endor theme..
I always thought that was a radar dish for some reason …
Cool, I didn’t consider this as a unit! It will be interesting to see if this is very survivable in practice or if it relies on getting the first shot in.
Don’t count on it shooting stuff or even killing stuff. That is a bonus.
Count on it being a threat that forces your opponent to attack where you want.
That is the true strength of these fixed guns.
It is really nice, but I am sorry to say that i don’t like to mix diferent kind of units in one “army”. I’ll explain. I want a “themed” army, so if i choose to play with stormtroopers i don’t want them to go necessarily with snowtroopers, so the choice of an e-web manned by STORMtroopers would be nice. The same happens with “elite” snowtrooper unit… I don’t want to mix them, specially when you consider that their “environemnt” is very diferent… i don’t like the idea of having some scouts in a warm planet like Endor or Naboo alongside… Read more »
Why not modify it ?
It probably is easier to swap out the rebel troops with something more thematic for your army.
I definitely understand the need for a thematic coherent force.
As such it is kind of weird that the units shown so far lack any kind of theme within their respective armies. X-wing had a similar problem, but not quite as bad as Legion.
Yes, of course converting units is always fun and the way to go, but… I am used to have bits for my tiny soldiers, I don’t use green stuff SO well!!! And they don’t give you bits!! Another problem related to this one I have mentioned is the lack of multicomponent elements so you can choose more than one pose, it is fun and you can swap easily arms, heads, legs and torsos, and glue them in slightly diferent positions so you got a million of diferent options. AND then you could use some spare pieces to convert this… or… Read more »
I think this game isn’t aimed at your traditional wargamer. Those guys aren’t going to miss the modelling aspect. They may even consider it to be a bonus.
However I do think that FFG should make theming your army easier. Because the releases are all over the place. One unit is perfect for Hoth and the other is more Endor like. And then there’s those fleet troopers that fit nowhere.
I’m inclined to agree. Until they’ve realised a set of miniatures that allow a similarly themed army to be put together I’ll continue to hold off. And I still want non-hero led armies.
I think I prefer the mobility of the imperial version but at least the rebels get some AT-ST rivalling firepower. Points costs seem decent but the opportunity cost of using one of your three support slots might be too high a tax. Will be getting both so we’ll find out!
Wow these look great . Yes it would have been nice to have both a warm weather crew along side the Hoth crews , as others have said we don’t want to have a mix of troop types on the game table . Hopefully FFG will release a temperate version of these guns , or at least a 2 man crew pack , although if you fix the gun to the base how would you decide how to cover it , snow , jungle , half & half , oh , hell that won;t look good , guess we’ll have… Read more »
i have the Kenner version of these two.
I hope they come out with the DF.9 turret, too; tiny kidlet me loved that thing so much.
Is that the tower with the circle turret? GF9 are making a terrain one of those
Yeah, they look very cool, I’m just greedy and also want shooty rules for them. 🙂
This is going to hurt the bank account.
I believe in content but the releases are getting ridiculous as my local shops cannot even get new stock of the first wave
Some good troops to put on the field to keep the enemy busy. Either counter this or get hurt.
I have to agree with the others that it would be good to have alternative crews for these, particularly the rebel gun as they haven’t yet released Hoth trooper, only Endor and fleet troop choices, even the leaders aren’t dressed for Hoth!
