FFG Announce Upcoming Star Wars Deckbuilding Game
August 9, 2022 by fcostin
Before Fantasy Flight Games polished off their journey home from Gen Con, they left tabletop gamers a surprise at the very end of their final In-Flight Check-In. With very little context, other than the initial announcement and that we can expect the title to head to our tables in 2023, Fantasy Flight will be exploring Star Wars in a deck-building medium once more.
Star Wars: The Deck Building Game // Fantasy Flight Games
Titled, Star Wars: The Deck Building Game, players were invited to witness the next addition to the Star Wars IP from Fantasy Flight. Taking a competitive route with each hand with individual motives, players will be taking sides with the Rebels or The Empire.
Given the previous deck-building title that Fantasy Flight Games had released previously, Star Wars: The Card Game. This new venture will be heading into different territories. As the previous title was very similar to the output of living card games also under the house at Fantasy Flight, including Lord of the Rings LCG, Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror. Given the vague name, and the theme of deckbuilding - we can only hope that we will be getting something quite different. The competitive aspect is certainly a move in the right direction.
Star Wars Deck Building Game Preview // Fantasy Flight Games
The title is set to be heading to our tabletops in 2023, but until then - we will merely have to speculate on what to expect. Given the new fresh tweak and tailor to the core card games over at the publisher, it will certainly be interesting to see how this title holds up against the others in the Fantasy Flight library of card games.
What do you think, is there room in your life for Star Wars: The Deck Building Game?

Fascinating – I am intrigued as FFG do good card-gameage. I would love for this to end up as something nice and self-contained
Dawn is very excited. She just did a happy dance when I showed her.
But will FFG actually support the game six months or a year from now? They’ve dropped SW Destiny Dice Game, Keyforge, Runewars miniature game, Legend of the Five Rings, etc. etc. I think Lord of the Rings and Call of Cthulhu are the only games they’ve kept around for a longer time?
I prefer top Trump’s card games. They do look good for the gamers.
Well this could be worth getting.
This is so vague it could be anything. I’d like to have seen a good LCG/TCG/CCG return but okay let’s keep an open mind. If it’s just a one box art recycling exercise then it would be disappointing. The ‘competitive’ bit brings some hope its going to be a larger, expandable game.
I like their card games. And Star Wars. I´d love to like this game as well.
I hope the game tries to forge a new path different to Arkham LCG or LotR LCG.
FFG did a Star Wars LCG before and dropped it.
I had it, but got rid of it some years ago.
