Geek Native discuss Cubicle 7

We’ve heard a lot of exciting announcements at UKGE this year about new games or new editions of games that are now coming our way.

This weekend we also got a much rarer ‘no new game’ announcement. Cubicle 7 told fans in a seminar that they were currently very busy with Warhammer 40K, the Age of Sigmar RPG Soulbound, a new edition to the Lord of the Rings RPG and they even made mention of a new edition of their Doctor Who RPG.

There’s no such luck for The Laundry RPG. This is the X-Files meets Cthulhu game of investigation and bureaucracy based on Charles Stross’ novel series.

Cubicle 7 explained that even if The Laundry RPG was top of their to-do list, there was still the issue with the expired license deal with Call of Cthulhu publisher Chaosium. That would have to be resolved, or a new system introduced before a revised edition could be published.

Game or Naught Look at Chronicles of Crime To Solve a Mystery

Over the last couple of years, tabletop gaming has been integrating smartphone tech into the gameplay experience. Predominantly, this has been to help game set up or to administrate player turns or health. Chronicles of Crime looks to move things forward by making their app a core element of the game itself.

Tasking your group of players with solving a mystery, Chronicles of Crime uses the app to give you suspect’s answers to questions, a place to scan (using QR codes) and store clues, as well as a way to ask a group of in-game characters for help with forensics, technology, science, or criminology. So far, so useful.

Where Chronicles of Crime stands out is that the app uses 360 degrees virtual reality to allow players to actually look around and observe the crime scenes. In turn, you will either find clues to help your investigative team or possibly overlook something crucial. The app turns this into a legitimate game of police inspection.

If you are at UKGE, or not, it is definitely worth checking Chronicles of Crime out for yourself.

Great coverage guys. Love the continuous live feeds throughout the day. You’ve got them flowing perfectly. Very slick in deed. The guys in front of the camera are doing a fabulous job. The guys beavering away in the background making it all happen, even more so. Moucho respecto!
