UK Games Expo 2019 Live Blog Extra!

Reaper Miniatures have of course been working away on their Bones line for a while now but they are also got lots of things in the mix too, especially over here in Europe.

As well as that you could have got involved in the paint and take awesomeness here at the show. You can actually come and get involved in this next year too!

Ryan joins Eric and Jason from Paizo to talk about the exclusive new release of Pathfinder Second Edition.

The guys discuss where Piazo has come from in their history from writing adventures for Dungeons & Dragons to fully developing their own ruleset and expanding the universe into what has become one of the best RPGs of today.

Second edition features some amazing new additions to their rules, including a new combat mechanic of having a 3 action turn and turning the critical roll into something you can really celebrate!

Justin checks in with a couple of vendors who are doing some very interesting merchandise at UK Games Expo.

Katherine at Food Pawn is doing some delicious sugar filled board game components. Tubs of gelatinous meeples have been delighting gamers on the show floor (and indeed, back at the OTT HQ). Clare at Kasasagi has also been making some meeple inspired jewellery to add some sparkle to your board game nights!

It’s time to bring out some future childhood favourites from HABA, Ryan is joined with Meike to try out the newest releases from HABA.

Checking out one of the top games of 2019, Tal Der Wikinger is the perfect game for the family which includes varying rules and tactile components for tiny hands, you play as boisterous vikings hurling cannonballs down their isles towards barrels, the barrels you knock over will allow you to move your vikings down the harbour and inevitably into the lake… SPLOOSH!

HABA have been creating some of the best games for 80 years now and with a two year running nominations from Spiel des Jahres it’s easy to see why they’re making the best games for families.

Warren catches up with Gareth from Gale Fore Nine to discover the latest releases for the Dungeons & Dragons range including an expansion for Vault of Dragons and new miniatures for the latest Baldur’s Gate campaign.

Ryan takes a look at what Highfell Games are bringing to the tabletop with FellBound. Joe is transferring his skill as an artist to the tabletop  With beautiful displays he is testing his combat system at the show this year.

Ryan runs to find one of the most interesting publishers in board games: Quality Beast.

Stefan explains to a curious Ryan exactly how Towers of the Sun works. Being among one of the most beautiful board games at the show he was instantly drawn to it. Stefan explains how the mechanics weave with the theme to create an engaging experience around this board game.

It’s time to grab your beer glasses, kegs and welly boots. Ryan is joined by Maggie from Greater Than Games to discuss Homebrewers and Medium.

Homebrewers is an excellent resource management game about creating your own beers inside your own brewery, if you’re looking for a heavier Euro style game to play while you’re attending your favourite beer festival, this is the game for you… BURPP! 

Medium, on the other hand is a perfect way to get to understand your friends and family. Delve deep into the minds of your opponent to relate the best way you can to find the medium word between two others. If I suggested Koala and Chocolate, what would you say?

Ryan gets to chat to Walrus Ventures about their scathing indictment of London power figures.

Fitting right into the competitive structure of board games, Manipulate pits several players against each other to become the most powerful person in London. Using a circular board the art style is certainly eye catching and shines a light on on the competitive structures we might take for granted at times when they’re set in the context of the accumulation of power.

Ryan is joined by Laura from HIT Games to talk about the excellent themed games such as Frozen Noggin and The story of Griffmas, Ryan’s not the biggest fan of Christmas but perhaps Laura can persuade him otherwise with these beautifully themed game, perfect for all the family for years to come!

Warren got to chat with the folks behind Ludic Creations about their game which has been remastered called On The Underground.

This game has been out for a while but it has been spruced up for a modern audience.

Ryan joins Tom from Themeborne to discuss and play the newest edition to the Escape From the Dark Series.

Moving away from the Fantasy series of the Dark Castle, we take things into the space age of the Dark Sector which is now available to all on Kickstarter. You may even see a few hints and callbacks to the original Dark Castle within.

Getting a quick play through we get to see how the combat has changed and how well the story has progressed with the Escape the Dark Series from Themeborne.

We got a chance to get a sneaky look at one of DrawLabs new games. This is Fired Up where you’re playing as the crowd rather than the combatants in the arena.

Ryan got to chat with the designer and artist behind one of our favourite games from Devir, Silk.

This is a wonderful game which features some wonderful artwork and also some killer gameplay too which really plays with your tactical thinking.

What do you think about the different things they have changed up for the game this time around?

In the not-too-distant future, Britain is a high-tech paradise. The world seems perfect, thanks to the security app ‘ModNet,’ which identifies undesirable locations and Moderates them. Moderated Locations appear idyllic by manipulating the augmented reality eyeware virtually everyone now wears.

A small group of Dissidents seeks to challenge ModNet’s hold on society. Attempting to evade Moderators’ notice, they swap coded messages, planning to hack into location display settings and reveal the world for what it is.
