Essen SPIEL ’18 Live Blog – Saturday

Oink Games create a whole bunch of wonderful small games which you can take away in your pocket!

We stopped in to talk with them about some of these games including Tomato, Money Bags, Sink and Zogen!

I love these games, especially Deep Sea Adventure and I would love to hear which of these games has appeared on your radar!

Ice Cool is a fun, dexterity based game, where players try to flick their penguins around the maze-like board.

Lots of families have been playing the game together, and there have been some quite impressive trick shots on display.

Sit Down Games have a host of games with them at Essen Spiel ’18, ranging from the gravity-defying Gravity Star to the tower defence of Bad Bones.

Bad Bones really seems to have caught people’s attention at the show. The game sees you fighting off a never-ending horde of walking skeletons as they try to take your tower. There is no defeating the horde of the dead, so to win you must outlast your opponents.

Knight Models are showing the fantastic models for the Harry Potter Miniatures Game.

The classic characters from the movies and books are all beautifully recreated here, carrying out magical duels over the tiled floors of Hogwarts.

We stop in with Colin from Battle Systems to learn about what’s coming up for them in the near future.

In Magnate, you play as a property developer trying to make as much money as possible through a series of careful decisions and land acquisitions.

The game will boast a selection of realistic buildings, ranging from industrial to residential, letting you supply the demand of your city.

Ryan got to have a great chat with designer Antoine Bauza about the way that development unfolded concerning 7 Wonders Armada, the newest expansion for 7 Wonders.

We get into a good conversation about game design, the reason why it has been a while since the last big expansion and what you need to know about how it has developed on the tabletop.

This is a great chat and well worth tuning in for!

At one stand, we found players exploring two very different takes on the end of a civilisation.

First, we have This War Of Mine: The Board Game. Based on the excellent video game of the same name, this game sees you facing difficult decisions as you struggle to survive in a city torn up by warfare.

Second, Waste Knights sends players out into the blasted remains of post-apocalyptic Australia. Here, the focus is far more on action and adventure. The world may have ended, and at such times the world needs heroes.

Colin and Justin head on over to the PlayFusion stand to talk with Jade and Owain about what is coming up for the world of Lightseekers including the new expansion, some tips as to what to look out for next year AND much more.

This game is really fun to play and as you can see, a lot of people have been getting stuck into both the German and English version of the game here at the event.
