Salute 2014: Sensational Gaming Tables! [Updated]
April 12, 2014 by dracs
UPDATE: Moving on with our look at the great gaming tables here at Salute. Previously, we mostly got a look at some of the historical games. Now we take a look at some of the fantasy and sci-fi settings, starting with the excellent Dropzone Commander board.
Surprisingly, this is not the most awesome thing Hawk Wargames have brought with them. Check this out.
That is a full-sized orbital dropship! It cannot get more awesome than that, and Warren tells me that we might expect to see more of it in the future.
Of course, Hawk aren't the only ones who have been keeping busy making spectacular tables. Empire of the Dead and Crooked Dice have brought tables fit for any pulp or steampunk adventure.
Fenris have been playing on their great swamp table that they have been posting the WIPs of for a while now.
The Freebooter's Fate table has set sail with an amazing ship.
Micro Art Studio have made some excellent steampunk tables for Wolsung SSG.
While other tables have taken us everywhere, from the chariot races of the Roman arena, to a strange colonial war on the surface of Mars.
These tables are really impressive, all with an awesome degree of character and detail. Best of all, games are being played on most of them!
Battles are raging, across the tundra and cliffs, in the streets and even on the waves.
There are even planes soaring over 'Nam style battles and men storming the the ramparts of the Holy City.
There are still plenty more here to see and I will be adding them to this post throughout the day. Be sure to check back to see some of the fantasy and sci-fi stuff on display and a quick glimpse of a massive project Hawk Wargames have been working on.
I’m liking the vietnam table, not sure what the game is, but the table itself is vey well done.
And of course that giant cliff. No idea whats going on there, but who doesnt want a giant cliff!
Im also very curious as to what system the nam game is being played on. Force of force perhaps? Maybe modified Bolt action?
Not sure but there are loads of Vietnam rules out there, though nothing is as good as Charlie Company IMHO
It’s modified Bolt Action rules, they presented it at the last Crisis in Antwerp last year. Great table never the less.
Not sure about the game system, but the image seems to match this Redstar line of models:

Nice looking figures though I am pretty certain the slouch hat on the Aussies is pinned up on the wrong side
Cliff tabletop says “Keren 1941″… found this through sone searches:

Pretty awesome table.
Wow. That’s my jaw on the floor. Huge envy for anyone seeing this in the flesh.
I am going to have to go to that some year.
Holy crapola. That dropship is awesome.
I like the Battle of Keren table
Nice to see the Red Planet table again with some new additions. Those walls are great for all sorts of games.
Those are beautiful tables. 🙂
Got there in the afternoon with my son… nowhere near as busy as the morning must have been (I may share my pic of the queue for non-ticket holders at 10:30am sometime). What a wonderful array of games… all shapes, sizes, genres, complexities. Some very clever ‘tables’. Having finally tried Malifaux we walked away with effectively a £70 starter pack (2 faction crews, mini-rule book & 2 decks).and looking forward to painting and playing. Found your area at 16:55 and had a quick chat with Romain and said Hi to John; the rest of you were running around (or at… Read more »
Very inspirational pieces. That Necron/tomb board with a front and a back looked really good. Would have loved to have the images in a higher resolution. Watching on a high res screen makes them very small.
That dropship rocks! When’s Warren making his?
DzC never disappoints, they are true showmen! Had a long look at the chariot race and I have to say it was a beautifully simple and fun game. It left a huge smile on everyone’s face. Have to say the predator table was a laugh as well. GET TO DA CHOPPA!!
Had an excellent day at Salute. Took my 10 year old son and we were there from 10.30 until we were kicked out after 5pm. And I mean kicked out! Huge thanks to the fellow at Gripping Beast who ran he SAGA demo, and carried on right up to the point security asked us to finish the game… Another big shout out to the guys running the MEGA, yes MEGA X-Wing participation game. The boy thoroughly enjoyed it. my wallet is still crying through all the action it received during the day!! Fantastic.
Wow. The full size dropship is jaw dropping and the gaming tables is something else. Will go next year
Spent the first half hour wandering around in a daze, talk about sensory overload! Great exhibition and I only spent double the amount I had budgeted!
