May 11, 2017 by brennon
If you're coming to the UK Games Expo this year then you'll be happy to know that Ian Livingstone, a famous face in our industry, is going to be at the event throughout the weekend.
From the UK Games Expo announcement...
We are delighted to announce that Ian Livingstone, a UK Games Expo Hall of Fame Inductee will be our guest this year and will be giving a special seminar entitled...
Games Workshop To Fighting Fantasy To Lara Croft To His Top 10 Board Games
Ian co-founded iconic games company Games Workshop with Steve Jackson in 1975, launching Dungeons & Dragons in Europe. In 1982, he co-authored The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, again with Steve Jackson, the first interactive game book in the Fighting Fantasy series which has sold almost 20 million copies worldwide.
He wrote fifteen of the titles, including City of Thieves, Forest of Doom and Deathtrap Dungeon. Celebrating thirty-five years of Fighting Fantasy, he has written a new book, The Port of Peril, which will be published by Scholastic in August.
He has been awarded a BAFTA Special Award, and was awarded a CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours list.
Find him on Stand F11 At 3pm on Friday 2nd June and Saturday 3rd June and at other times. Ian will be signing copies of his books or any Fighting Fantasy books and other works you might want to bring along. Or just go along and meet him.
At 6pm on Friday 2nd June in the Toute Suite, just outside Hall One he is also giving a talk mentioned above which is exciting news! Don't miss this opportunity to hear from one of the founding fathers of the hobby games industry.
We're excited to meet him and find out about his experiences in the industry. That seminar of his should be fascinating too!
Will you be looking to meet him?

Met him and Steve Jackson years ago when the Expo was WAY smaller than it is now. Between them they signed some FF books and the 4 Sorcery books. I was totally star struck and barely said a word, just ” hello ” and ” could you sign these please “. The FF series is great and is part of what got me into gaming 30 years ago.
A man to whom so much is owed by so many ….. still remember buying Warlock of Firetop Mountain as a lad getting it home, raiding the dice from the Monopoly set , and sitting down to read/play…… 10 minutes later I was dead to appalling dice rolling (a habit which has sadly lasted a lifetime) … but I was hooked. If anyone is going to this and is talking to Mr Livingstone tell him that a crazy man from Australia says “thanks so much”
You too suffered from ” bad dice syndrome ” ? . I thought it was just me….Such a lot of fond memories playing Firetop Mountain, Scorpion Swamp, Talisman of Death, Deathtrap Dungeon, Forest of Doom and all the others, just superb 😀 .
In my dice;s defence they do roll 6s …… when I need 2s and 2s when I need 6s ……….. It hasn’t changed much over the years……. I swear they sense need
He did Island of the Lizard King which was my gateway back in 84
good to know, chers Ben,
Firetop Mountain is one of the best boardgames I have played
