Dark Age Games Rulebook Announcement
August 6, 2010 by warzan
Dark Age Games have kindly given us the lowdown on what they are up to. So new rules on the way (October, it will be a skirmish game), miniature range will be better organised, ohh and the movement is in inches now not centimetres.
We're looking forward to getting a closer look at this game in the near future but why does the wargaming community at large find the metric system so off putting? Would you like to buy your miniatures in shillings and farthings? mmmmm
loving the skirmish stuff
Yea inches, Mantic and Alessio please take note 🙂
I second that. Although I do play some games in cm (Battle fleet Gothic) I much prefer inches as its what I’m used to and everyone I know plays the inch option if its a choice like War of the ring.
Stu
I like bases to be in mm, makes it so much easier to do, apart from that i dont really care if its cm or inches.
Easiest option is you can move 8…where 1= xx cm or inches
Is it just me that likes the metric system?
Yep… it’s just you.
I just wish they would fix thier damn web site. The last news item was Oct. 7 2009 and you can’t order anything from thier web store.
I want more Groundwerks!
Metric is good for smaller scales, like epic or BFG, were 10 cm is a fair distance, but once you go past 15mm scales inches seem to work better just cos the numbers are smaller and the standard measurement of the scale IE a foot is more usable- how often do you need to move something a meter when playing?
being american, we know bigger is better. I want to see more games using decimeters or pentameters… oh wait… an iambic pentameter..? Nevermind…
cm’s are used because most of the world use metric. In fact, only the US, Burma and Liberia haven’t adopted it.
So, when you think about the percentage of potential world wide populace, it makes more sense to use cm’s.
When I first got into wargaming, I was actually surprised 40k and WFB used inches. I would have assumed that Games Workshop, being a UK based company, would have written the ruleset in metric. I believe metric makes more sense especially when you are converting between units, but I think it is like what was said before, inches put things in a smaller scale. 6 inches for movement seems to fit better than 16 cm.
Inches keep the numbers down. So it’s as simple as wanting easy maths.
Well, what population in the world plays the most games? Is it the people in the US with their system or the rest of the world with the metric system?
You have to go where the players are (or the players that buy the game are).
I really like some of the miniatures and I think the their background story is one of the most appealing to me. Haven’t had the chance or time to test the rules, but I hope I’ll get the chance soon.
