Warcradle Studios has just announced their BIG new reveal for Dystopian Wars. You are going to be able to take to the skies with the epic Sturginium Skies - Two Player Starter Set!
Sturginium Skies - Two Player Starter Set // Dystopian Wars
Shop Dystopian Wars @ Wayland Games
With this new two-player starter set, you'll be able to play out some absolutely epic battles in the Dystopian Age. This is the first big set since Hunt For The Prometheus and here you'll be seeing the Crown and their Canadian airforce defending against an Imperium invasion from across the high seas.
The new set throws some interesting combined arms elements into the mix where you'll be taking control of high-flying units and large naval fleets at the same time. On the side of the Imperium, you have the likes of the mighty
Stark Imperium Skyfortress // Dystopian Wars
This is just one of the impressive new miniatures that you'll be able to play around with. As you can see, they've got the flying fortress theme nailed down here and I love the presence that this has when floating across the engagements unfolding below.
It's not all about the massive ships though. You can also keep a light escort duty with the helpful aid of the Kriegstorm Class Assault Airship for example.

As with a lot of the Dystopian Wars kits, you can build them in a variety of ways. All you need to do is create the fleet (and squadrons) that work best for your playstyle and with weaponry honed to take down your immediate foes.
The Crown isn't going to be outdone when it comes to miniatures. They can also call on some high-flying elements like the Prydian Class War Rotor for example.

Again, an impressive miniature and one where you can really see how the folks on the design team have tried to create unique and interesting fleets. I like how, at a glance, you can often tell which faction a ship fits into. For the Imperium it's usually all the rivets! For The Crown, it's certainly the filigree and ostentatious nature of their hulls.
Tintagel Class Battle Rotor // Dystopian Wars
As well as the flying elements of each force, you will have also noted that the factions come with plenty of regular ships as well. It's worth taking a closer look at the showcase over on the Warcradle Blog as they have gone into detail on all of the elements available to both sides.

But, why are they fighting? Well, Sturginium Skies focuses on a campaign where the beleaguered Canadian forces are hoping to hold off an Imperium invasion led by Kommodore von Hoeppner (what a name!). The Canadians are calling on Air Marshal Spottswoode and the 14th Rotor Expedition to save them before it's too late!
Yukon Class Cruiser // Dystopian Wars
The campaign element here means that you'll get to learn how to play Dystopian Wars over successive games and have a fun story to tell by the end of your expedition. It's always nice following a narrative, especially in big and bombastic games like Dystopian Wars.
In terms of miniatures, this is what you'll be getting to tell these stories...
- 1x Stark Imperium Skyfortress
- 2x Kriegsturm Assault Airship
- 4x Jaeger Aerial Fast Destroyer
- 4x Aerial Escort
- 2x Reiter Cruiser
- 4x Sigimer Destroyer
- 3x Prydain War Rotor
- 3x Tintagel Battle Rotor
- 6x Saxon Scout Rotor
- 3x Newfoundland Attack Cruiser
- 6x Orca Hunter Submarine
- SRS Tokens
So, a pretty darn sizable chunk of miniatures to get you going with Dystopian Wars.
All The Gubbins!
Beyond the miniatures, you'll also get a host of essential tools and such that will be needed to play the game. As mentioned above, that means a full Rulebook and the Campaign booklet...

These are then complemented by a whole host of extras that mean you won't have to go beyond this set to begin playing the game.

Are you tempted to snap this up? If so, which faction do you think you're going to be fighting for? Could you be tempted by the Imperium or the stalwart defenders of The Crown?

It would be silly not to snap this up
I like the new airships their brining out.
Wow, it’s not often you see Canadians mentioned in… anything. I got a kick out of the “halifax class” cruiser option – an actual class I’ve sailed on 😛
I seem to remember a few years ago an “airships” game with prepainted minis (I think it came out of the US), or am I getting confused, and it was Dystopian Wars all along 🙁
You might be thinking about leviathans… They were trying to revive it via Kickstarter, but the price per model made me not look into it any further.
Dystopian Wars scratches that same itch for me and it refreshingly priced (a nice change in today’s wargaming scene)
