Warcradle Studios has now started taking pre-orders for the new Dystopian Wars Two-Player Starter Set which is now available to pre-order from the Wayland Games webstore! Check out what's included with the Hunt For The Prometheus set which features everything you need to get started.
Hunt For The Prometheus // Dystopian Wars
You Can Pre-Order Dystopian Wars: Hunt For The Prometheus Here
This Starter Set marks the return to the tabletop of Dystopian Wars as we get to see a naval battle game in full flow between two plastic and resin fleets from the Covenant Of The Enlightened and the Commonwealth.
"This box set not only provides everything you need for two players to start playing Dystopian Wars, but it also contains a campaign that details the theft of the prototype Hypatia Class Generator ship by the Russian double agent Helsinki Markov. The Commonwealth Intelligence Service (known as the Okhrana) have seen a chance to acquire Enlightened secrets and add new technology to their arsenal in order to better defend the Commonwealth. They risk reprisals from the Enlightened but as long as the technology is theirs it would be worth the consequence. The Covenant guard their secrets jealously and losing the Generator ship will cost them years of research and development. The game is afoot and the stakes are high for both sides."
These ships are then joined by two books to get you started, the cards you need to begin playing the game and a bunch of dice, tokens, markers and more.

It's really nice to see these fleets getting an upgrade and being brought back to the tabletop. The 1/1200 scale means that you've got the chance to play around with some absolutely massive naval forces which bring together that signature blend of Steampunk and Sci-Fi that the world of Dystopian Wars is known for, especially now it has been blended into the existing worlds that Warcradle has been helming.
The Miniatures & More
As mentioned above, the miniatures here are looking pretty darn awesome and they seem like they're going to be a heck load of fun to paint!
Commonwealth Fleet // Dystopian Wars
With this particular fleet, you've got...
- 1x Borodino Class Battleship
- 5x Kutsov Class Cruisers - Each Cruiser can alternatively be built as either Norilsk, Oleg or Sineus Class
- 10x Rurik Class Frigates
If you were looking at this set of miniatures and were more drawn to the Covenant Of The Enlightened then cop a load of these!
Covenant Of The Enlightened // Dystopian Wars
Within this set, you get all manner of fascinating miniatures which are a little different from the traditional "ship" look of the Commonwealth.
- 1x Descartes Class Control Ship
- 1x Hypatia Class Generator Ship
- 3x Copernicus Class Heavy Cruisers - Each Cruiser can alternatively be built as either Antarctica, Chatelet, Lovelace, Stiletto or Ulysses Class
- 9x Merian Class Drone Frigates - Each Frigate can alternatively be built as Germain Class
I think I would be hard-pressed to work out which particular fleet I would pick over the other. The Commonwealth have that neat style to them which would be easier to paint but the Covenant also have funky ships which look like they've come from a work of Victoriana Sci-Fi!
As well as the miniatures you've also got a neat Rulebook to get stuck into...
The Rules // Dystopian Wars
...and also the Hunt For The Prometheus Campaign book which you can play through with your friends. You can get introduced to new concepts part-by-part here and get your head around all of the rules as you go.

I’m a very happy bloke today been very much looking forward to this and it looks worth the wait roll on January ⚓️
I’m looking forward to getting my new rulebook and trying this game with my old Covenant of Antartica fleet. Has anyone seen any pictures of the new and old ships side-by-side?
@brennon I have been watching this game for a while wondering if it would be interesting. Have you played it? This is the first fleet game that has interested me since Battlefleet Gothic. Seems like a very complete starter set. Is there a playthrough coming in the future?
There is a let’s play with Justin, have added the link below for you. There is also a Round break down video. Hope that helps, the let’s play is a fun watch ?

I have played the original version of the game back in the Spartan days. I did like it – it was a lot of fun and very accessible. I’ve not played the new version though. As has been commented – we do have some more up-to-date videos too 🙂
Thanks Andrew and Ben. Merry Christmas! I always wind up looking at games through the eyes of youngsters in my extended family, since that is my gaming group. Trying to open their world to games like this, Konflikt 47, Hail Caesar and Bolt Action.
Your welcome and Merry Christmas I hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and manage to get some great gaming under your belt. I have younger nephews and we regularly get together and play a game of two using the Paperboy range and its always great fun. Enjoy the Lets Play ?
im loving the ships.
I’ve been looking forward to this since I saw it at salute.
My biggest issue with these is the Covenant (at least to my limited understanding of the fluff) should be most advanced faction by a fair wa. Its shown in the ship design, but not the fleet balance. Seems a perfect faction to exlore so asymmetrical design with few, high powered, high cost ships.
Man o man, am I keen for this. … and what a great release box too. **contented sigh **
I will enjoy seeing this game, but I really want to see the rules and make sure there’s some actual, long-term support for the game.
