Grab WizKids Take On Arkhan & The Dark Order For D&D Soon
February 5, 2020 by brennon
WizKids is working on a new D&D Icons Of The Realm set for the current storyline, Descent Into Avernus by Wizards Of The Coast for 5th Edition. The Dark Order are calling with a new set of miniatures.
The new set comes with some stylish artwork and has been designed alongside Joe Manganiello who created Arkhan The Cruel and his cohort of evil characters. As well as the core characters of Arkham, Torogar and Krull you'll also get his pet Manticore, Chongo and then an additional Berserker and White Abishi which you can throw into the mix too.
The character designs have actually been done to match the art by the fantastic Max Dunbar who has been designing artwork for many different creators over the years. His work on Arkhan, however, is particularly good and manages to capture the evil intensity of these evil characters that Manganiello cherishes.
I have really like the other interpretations of Arkhan from different sources like Gale Force Nine but I think that this set of miniatures are going to be the ones that I pick up because they are done in the style which I prefer by Dunbar. I think it would be fun to work on not just tidying up the paint schemes but also maybe doing a full repaint to match a better tabletop style.
Now, we just have to wait patiently for March to roll around and then snap them up to have our own cabal of evil characters! I love the idea of dropping them onto the tabletop and making your players run away in terror as they realise who they've bumped into!
What do you make of the sculpts for this Icons set? The paint jobs are going to be different obviously but I think the sculpts are top-notch.

Wow.
If they look this great in person, it’s a buy for me! Many ways to add evil folks into a campaign!
There is an unboxing on Youtube and the paint jobs are ok but the big thing for me is the sculpts/poses. I love the art of Max Dunbar so it’s good to see that coming through. I will probably get these and do a bit of a repaint/touch up job.

Thanks for the link @brennon !
Although i haven’t done touch ups on prepaints in ages, i think that i will do so at least on the turtle guy (the mini can serve as a wonderful advance kobold for me 🙂 ). I love the Manticore and also agree on the sculps/poses, they are great.
I like to think of them as having a really good basecoat already applied… and of course I hate painting base colours!
