“So dry your tears, I say : No Warren No Cry” 😀 Amazing reports, hope to see part 2 pretty soon.
Gutted I missed out on that one. Superb report and some fantastic opponents from the look of it and Dave is a legend.
Nice job on the video Justin! Superb!
@acsmith7 I think u might be wrong. Saw Lloyd doing all filming during the event.
In that case great job Lloyd 🙂
Took the plunge and started DZC, will be playing Shaltari! Also picked up a starter box so that I can play with people who don’t have the game to introduce them to it. Who knows I might even expand on the starter box in the future.
Great AAR’s you seem to be have a fantastic time.
Would love to get into this but bought into Deadzone quite heavily so that’s my hobby time gone for the next 4300 years.
Odd to see myself in the background…
No mercy or pity from the Shaltari player. Love it lol. Looked like a great event. Any word on whether it’ll be an annual thing?
There is another one in September due to the popularity of this one, so its a fair guess that they will have another one next year as well.
Just seen the newsletter with the dates 🙂
Really enjoyed that…. looking forward to more awesome
Warren must have one of the best jobs in the world. Well, he’s enjoying himself so it has to be true! This is another very engaging show, and, like the pirates on the Black Pearl and the Aztec gold (arrrrr!), I hear Dropzone Commander calling to me. The only things putting me off are a) I have NO ROOM for any more toys b) I have little time available to prepare, assemble and paint toys c) if I did give in, I would prefer more of them to be polystyrene rather than resin. But the games itself, the minis, the… Read more »
Better be a scourge army. Drybrushing and inks and your golden. If you can stretch to one of those KR multi-cases, the figures take up practically no room. As for the material. It seems to be the best resin on the market, giving good detail while being indestructibly tough – have a look at a video of a condor gunship being repeatedly chucked at a wall undamaged to see it – only disadvantage is in cost, which if you’re playing scourge you can get the bulk in plastic for half the cash. Shame the starter box plastics aren’t available separately… Read more »
Nice report. looks like a game well worth considering.
A bit of a whistlestop tour, but it looks like it was a good day. – I don’t think I would have liked to go all the way to Croydon for it though.
I’ll certainly be going again 🙂
So they are going to use the same venue? Where exactly was it, only ask as I would like to check out hotels in the area for next time?
Croydon Conference Center.

Cheers @deaddave
Need to get more table time on this game… My drones are so funny they purposely hit nothing I swear 😀
I wish I could have made it to this looked like lots of fun
Warren, I love your infectious enthusiasm for the hobby, really looking forward to part 2, this is what the hobby is all about!
Yes. Yes, yes and yes. Go Warren!
That was enjoyable. I would have liked to see a little bit of the actual games you played though. Not necessarily the whole battle but maybe a couple minutes devoted to the highlights. If you’re going to help promote the game (and recently you have been promoting it quite heavily, for good reason) I feel you should show the game being played a bit in the wild, not just a demo. The whole “fast camera, crazy filter, loud music” during the actual gameplay portions I felt did a bit of a disservice to the game itself. Don’t take this the… Read more »
Ok so let’s think about this… To get the highlights of anything you need to film it all and then pick the best bits.
If we’re filming a game in the studio it takes the best part of a day just to frame the shots.
People go to the tourney to enjoy their day, we try to capture that without getting in the way as much as possible.
What you suggest might seem obvious, but if it were possible with the time and equipment we have… You would have watched it 😉
Fair enough point. It was just when you were describing some of the things that happened during your games, like using that one command card at the right time against the PHR player, I thought “Man, I would like to actually see that.”
Maybe you’ll figure out a way to do it one day. Google’s glasses perhaps?
Perhaps you could ‘reenact’ some of the situations on the board right after the game. It might not exactly get you in the moment, but it would be a good way to show placement and maneuvers.
And @warzan, it’s great to see your enthusiasm, but please allow the other people on screen to say something once in a while. 🙂 At some moments your opponents just appeared to be decorating the frame instead of participating in a battle report.
So what we need to do is build tourney tables with multiple built in IP based HD Cameras which stream content when you connect to them; now set up a server to collate that content and some user agents to allow viewers to select the interesting shots or moments. the tables will need there own dice roll and player card locations so those can be filmed. it would be twitch.tv for the boardgame world probably setting back the table build by an additional thousand pounds. You need electricity and an ethernet hub on each of those tables but you could… Read more »
Something seems a bit wrong where its best to blow up your own buildings to win a game, sounds rather gamey to me.
It’s not really ‘your’ buildings. – It’s just, buildings that happen to be on the same side of the battlefield as your force entered from.
Think of it a bit like a ‘Scorched Earth’ policy.
That would be true if the buildings weren’t on your side of the table with objectives in you could capture, its more like blowing up you own supply dump than a scorched earth policy.
I think it adds an interesting dilemma to the game, where sometimes you have to sacrifice in order to overcome your enemy.
And as stated above, its not something that happens every game.
During my first game of DZC I was taken aback a bit with how much destroying the buildings were a part of a sound strategy. I was facing PHR so my opponent was playing the blow up buildings faction, but even still he seemed to concentrate more firepower on buildings than on my army. It was my first game so I can’t make a sound judgement on the whole system just on that but in truth it did feel kind of weird. Thankfully the game is flexible enough that you can play without buildings and I’m hoping to see a… Read more »
Is this game ever played on anything other than city boards?
Before the terrain came out, they reccomended n-scale railroad terrain, or 10-15 mm wargames terrain. I believe Dave did mention that the game still works quite well in non-urban settings. Seeing as building demolition is an important mechanic though, cities are probably preferable.
The more I see of your DZC coverage the more I am drawn to buying the starter set. The PHR sound interesting.
I keep seeing these videos and just drooling the entire time, I would love to get into this game, but the resin models are pretty steep compared to the plastic equivalents, so I’ve held off. Plus I live in Canada so shipping makes the prices even harder for me to justify at the moment. Hoping that a Shaltari/PHR starter or range-wide plastics will come out in the near future so I can get stuck in 🙂 .
At the tournament they did announce they were reworking their army bundles, so that they would be based on points rather than model count. Might be a bit easier on the shipping as well if you can pick up a competitive force in one go.
I really enjoyed this. I’d really like to see footage/photos of @warzan ‘s opponents’ armies.
