Dropzone Commander Demo Game Part 1
August 9, 2014 by warzan
As we all saw a little while ago, Warren got to unbox the new Dropzone Commander two player starter set. Well he couldn't resist bringing the guys from Hawk Wargames back in to the studio to play through the box's starter mission..
So guys get ready to not only see how this amazing game plays, but also to get some insight on how your first game will feel and look, as well some of the tactics you might want to employ.
If you missed anything click below to see the other part of the game...

1 hour demo and this is just part 1 ? NICE!
Good demo, nice watching an unboxing, build and play all in one vid.
Been waiting for this sinds the unboxing. Love the way it works with placement of tanks to block LOS and protect your unit.
The only thing that strikes me is that destroyed tanks don’t leave wreck markers.
I am guessing the tanks get blown to smithereens! 😀
I have been a little iffy on this game, and this video has convinced me to dive in, the rules seem simple enough – at least starting out – and everything is in one box. I cant ask for more, love these videos guys, keep up the good work!
Have this running in the background as I paint my Scourge and UCM, great game, great video.
Good tutorial, very well explained Dave, have only played twice so far and have done 3 things wrong, or forgot about, the video corrected me on. Can we have part 2 now please 🙂
Aye hurry with part 2, this cliffhanger is unbearable. Will Warrens tanks take out the anti air? Tune in next week. Worse than bloody Flash Gordon.
Haven’t watched this yet. Just wanted to say YESS! Awwsome, have been waiting for more DZC! It has definitely become my favourite tabletop game!
Bloody marvellous part 1 – it is fast and furious and involves a lot of forward planning – the potential switching of initiative on every turn adds to the tension.
Soldier cam is great! It worked wonders on other demos and in this one it is invaluable for line of sight.
Awesome awesome awesome!!! This is exactly what i want to see from BoW, can we please have part 2 ASAP, and then similar vids on say X-wing, FireStorm Armada and Heavy Gear oh yes and obviously Deadzone when it shows!!!! and well infgact every awesome game out there if thats not too much trouble!!!
I have 1500 pts. in PHR and going in on a starter box with a buddy who plays to start a Scourge one…
LOVE IT- this game is the deal period.
Check this out a paint tut for those who are on the fence 🙂

I have just finished painting my UCM army from the starter set and may pull out the stops to get my Scourge stuff painted so I can have a game next week.
This is such a great gaming idea and the video has inspired me to play this as my main game.
Hawk war games have a channel…
We use it for rulings and other bits of info.

Sorry don’t mean to spam but this video hit a sweet spot when getting my game on.
My God how many more BoW demo game videos with the game creator or devolper in the studio can you put us through. 🙂
When I look at this starter set I just can’t help but wonder what we will be getting in a few years time. the bench mark keeps moving and Starter sets just get better.
@dawnpatrolchapter that’s not spam that’s sharing and most welcome
great vid
now I wanto to see the 2° part =P
You’ve made some brilliant ‘introduction to’ style series in the past, I’ve always counted the first Infinity ones as the best of the lot for communicating the feel of playing the game best, and I thought the dreadball series came close to that. but this one is just as good if not better.
Well done to all.
So there’s no reaction fire against ground targets?
Correct, no reaction fire against ground targets, only flyers.
Been waiting for this since you unboxed it, so much for not starting another system! well Christmas is coming and I have been a good boy this year.
Love the video, just need part 2 now…
Really nice tutorial of an awsome game! Awaiting my Starter Box with great anticipation – soon my Scourge Host will be over 2000p, exkluding commanders 🙂
Next week I´ll try to get some demo games in at the nearest local gaming store, hopefully as great as this one.
This game looks great and I wish I had the money to sink into it right now. I love the full discussion of tactics that is happening here. hope the dice favor Warren better in the next video.
I had a demo of this at GenCon in 2012 (from a retailer, don’t think the Hawk guys were there that year) right after the first kits started shipping out. That demo was nowhere near as cool as this one. I’m certainly giving it more consideration now than I did then. So many games though. I’m still painting my Dreadball stuff and I just got started in Malifaux 2E. I need to find a way to earn an income without working.
am glad that I saw this but wish we had watched it prior to yesterdays gaming session as some of the rules we had got totally wrong. I recalled that to lower transport ships took 2″ mv and 2″ to rise again, now not sure where I got this info from. The rule book is amazing quality but we had some issues trying to find all of the rules and obviously interpreted some of them wrong, hehe. Glad to see that the bears could act independently when out of the drop ship though and work on their own and we… Read more »
I played my first game using the same scenario today with my girlfriend. It was amazing fun I played the ucm and liked the way the two army’s player differently but still very balanced.
I will post a few pics of our game sometime in the week on this thread. It is a very cinematic game and I am looking forward to expanding on Dropzone. I have bought a few other units that are painted also but I am just going to play a few more starter set games before expanding.
Role on part two. I want to see if the risk works out
My dropzone game yesterday.
