Heavy Gear Blitz War For Terra Nova Hits Kickstarter Running
October 23, 2014 by stvitusdancern
The Heavy Gear Blitz - War for Terra Nova - Starter Set by Dream Pod 9, is on Kickstarter and has hit the ground running! They are half way to their funding goal and this Kickstarter is to fund molds for their plastic miniatures. These high quality multi-part miniatures for their tabletop wargame will form the new two player Basic Starter Set of 16 miniatures - with 4 different models right out of the gate.
They're not stopping there either! A Core Starter Set is also available, with stretch goals that will unlock new models and add more and more minis. Their goal is a Core Starter Set with 46 miniatures and color quick start rulebook that will be added after reaching the 13th stretch goal. This would allow for a variety of eighteen different models from 4 factions in a Core Starter Set for two players, with a multiplayer option of up to four players.
What's not to love about that? We love minis and choices! How better than to get into a game where you could try a few different factions to see who you really like?
Will you be heading into the War for Terra Nova?

And here I was hoping there wouldn’t be any more kickstarters I would be interested in D:
My poor wallet..
I was pretty excited to see this show up. But I was a little dismayed to find that the “core starter set” doesn’t come with any tokens, game specific dice or terrain and only a digital .pdf rulebook. The KS in it’s current state is really geared towards people who area already into the game, it seems. To that end, though, their goal is to provide 46 minis for a $100 pledge. That isn’t that bad at all. We shall see, though.
Tokens are free to download and dice etc are in the FAQ at bottom of page. They are a cheap add on, as most people have these items and they wanged to maximise the benefit of more miniatures for people. The rulebook is a free living rulebook, but will have colour version if they meet their 105k target.
tbh, compared to the alternatives I believe nostalgia will be the deciding factor in getting them funded. The core movement mechanic requires a movement dice and the box doesn’t have any of them. It looks like they are just jumping on the band wagon. I don’t see how this is a deal at all…
The new edition has done away with the movement die mechanic!
@leoleez, please go to DriveThruRPG and feel free to download the new 5th Edition Beta for free. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/133719/Heavy-Gear-Blitz-Tabletop-Wargaming–Beta-Rules?term=Heavy+Gear+Blitz+Beta To the staff of Beasts of War, thank you once again. For those with questions, nothing wrong with backing for 1 dollar and commenting your questions and suggestions to Dave and the rest of the staff. The crowdfunding effort has now achieved over $25,000, just $2k away from reaching its initial funding goal. After that, the more folks who join in Backing, the larger the rewards, but also more importantly the more miniatures that will be switched over to plastic. I hope… Read more »
As someone with a softspot for the old Heavy Gear games on the PC, I’m in 😉
They dropped the NuCoal starter, shame. I was looking forward to seeing the new NuCoal minis.
Thematically it makes more sense for the starter to feature the North and the South, but yeah I was bummed when NuCoal was dropped as they’re my main faction.
I was disappointed to see PRDF and Nucoal dropped from the stretch goals we saw in the first preview, but they only showed Goals to $170k and we all know that a well-done miniature game KS can go far beyond that.
Let’s see what happens then, eh erion? 🙂
and Goal is now met, on to Stretch Goals.
Well, it hit $48,000 now and is almost into its third day. I hope Beasts of War can continue to keep updating everyone on the Unlocked Stretch Goals. 🙂
Out of curiosity, shouldn’t this have been a main page article considering that HGB has been covered somewhat extensively by you guys before? Or are you waiting till the last week to throw it up on the back banner like the current one for Afterlife?
Now trending upwards of 245% of the funding goal with all the Wave 1 shipping spots gone already! The Iguana gear just unlocked and now the CEF frames are next!
The core rules are still in Beta but they are free to download and very complete. Lots of great communication between the company and the backers is happening.
Now trending towards the $75,000 Goal with some secret mini-goals appearing.
The new Acco model has been previewed in Update #35!
