Deadzone: Infestation Kickstarter Goes Live!
March 20, 2015 by brennon
Deadzone: Infestation from Mantic Games has gone live on Kickstarter allowing you to pledge for a revamped rulebook, new mission pack for Infestation, plastic miniatures and loads more terrain for the game!
Above is the pledge level from the start compiling all of the different aspects talked about above including a snap shot of The Piper Veer-Myn that will be exclusive to Kickstarter. That's quite a haul of stuff I reckon!
More on the Veer-Myn Faction...
"An insidious disease ridden race, the Veer-Myn fester in the darkest corners of man’s world. Their broods writhe and chatter in a rodent like manner, equally matched by their physical appearance. The uncertainty of whether the Veer-Myn act with a motive, or just the need to infest and expand, only adds to the nightmare created from what lurks within the shadows."
More on the Pathfinders...
"Even amongst the ranks of the Enforcers, the Pathfinders are an elite and highly specialised group. Their role demands that they avoid direct contact with the enemy wherever possible and their standard equipment and weaponry reflect this. Deployed ahead of the main force, the Pathfinders are tasked with gathering all the necessary Intel required to support a successful campaign, while eliminating any obstacles that may hinder the deployment of the main Enforcer vanguard."
While the Veer-Myn are there as a new faction (coming to you as a new hard plastic multi-part sprue) you have the Enforcer Pathfinders who add on to the already available faction within the game and act as scouts for the rest of the heavily armoured forces coming to the battlefield.
The Kickstarter will, on top of bringing new models to the table, be adding some new rules nuances, tweaks and such to the game as well as more in-depth rules for force organisation and even campaign play which is fairly epic.
If you like the look of Deadzone then you can check out the video above using the first rulebook which shows you how to play and then more on the game by checking out this link HERE.
Which faction do you prefer; Veer-Myn or Pathfinders?

Live and already fully funded!
I haven’t even had a chance to play the game with all my first round stuff. I’ll have think about it for a few days.
Hmm another army of rat men…. Very very tempting
Hmm. Not sure about this. Bit expensive to get the miniatures if you’re not overly interested in the rules, and Mantic could use to be a bit more forthcoming about how much scenery you actually get… Plus no explanation of what the stretch goals are or might be other than ‘additional miniatures’. Feels like the Kickstarter page was put together in a bit of a hurry…
I’m on the fence for now, but that might change.
The one thing you can be sure of is you will get loads for your money and it will all be explained eventually. And Deadzone is a great game. What’s not to like? 🙂
kickstarters rarely mention the stretch goals up front.
First it gets funded, then they add the first stretch goal, sometimes the second as a teaser. but very rarely all of them up front.
Mantic are pros at Kickstarters (really, they are the most successful gaming company to ever grace KS with all of their 6-7 campaigns that all went well), so whatever suggestions you may have about not doing it right are misplaced. From seeing them develop from the first Kings of War KS to the present, they’ve gotten good at figuring out costs, time to develop, making a “total” box product for a certain cost (in this case, for all the addons, frills, etc is $500,000), and keeping stretch goals under wraps, only once in a while revealing a bit to keep… Read more »
My experience with the original Deadzone KS was very different – quality was poor, was badly packed, bits missing etc. Communication was non-existent outside of update posts when problems where hit. Had issues with both wave 1 and wave 2. Stuff was eventually resolved, but I have been sufficiently put off to never back another Mantic kickstarter. I was not alone with the experience either, several friends had the same issue.
I think it _looks_ like a bit of a poor deal at the moment (and I’m surprised at the lack of a video introduction too). I think it’s odd that they haven’t specified what scenery you get in the box. However, as others say here, Mantic are experienced at this, and I too have no doubt that they will explain what you’re getting and that it will be a good deal. I have to applaud the simplicity of their goals at the moment. I know they will add more, but a problem some KS’ have is too many, complicated pledge… Read more »
That $115 pledge seems pretty straightforward: two faction’s worth of mini’s, complete rules, terrain mat, and gobs of terrain pieces… not including stretch goals. Am I missing something?
I’m in on this one just like the previous one. I’ve not actually had a proper game yet but the scenery has been built and painted as has one faction (the Plague), my main interest this time is the new mat design and the new battlezone/s.
Is it just me, or do the Heavy Veer-Myn’s have the yellow smiley face on their armour shoulder pads?
I am in (of course) as are many of the usual Mantic KS suspects (you know who you are).
ITS RATS IN SPACE! (something GW never managed…)
Are Beasts of War going to release the full-game play-through Warren did with James? Or has that vanished into the dustbins of history?
Why is there a picture from WWX on the news link? maybe it’s because it would all work for Firefly?
Must be the orchestrations of the Dark Council…. 🙂
Love the “industrial” terrain, looks really really great! Makes my inner rivethead happy. Kinda want some of that to make a 28mm scale version of a Front Line Assembly concert.
This is another awesome KS from Mantic. I can hear countless wallets crying when they owners see this.
So many shininess… Must resist for wallet’s sake…
Those pathfinders look cool,anyway.
They look cool until you realize they have good chest armor but no helmet, they have a single shoulder armor pad Spartacus style which is on the wrong side by the way, and they have no kneepads which is a 100% requirement if you’re going to fight in an urban theater (try to stay on one knee on a concrete floor just for laughs).
I think the guy designing those has no clue >< But they look good, haha.
They don’t need helmets; they’ve got goggles to protect them. Anyway, we all know, humanity will evolve so that anything vital will be situated in one shoulder.
lol. Good points. If I get in on this it will be for the terrain, not the mini’s. I don’t need any rat faction mini’s either. That pauldron is particularly annoying. I wonder if it can be stuck on either side?
The plastic is real crap to scrape away, it is got some hate it.
This stuff is going to be hard plastic, not restic, so actually the mold lines will not be a problem.
If its made of the same stuff as wave one and two the mold line are a total bitch to remove (in comparison to GW & FW, Malifaux, Perry, Infinity, Bolt Action and so on) and the quality of the minis leaves alot to be desired if of course all your order all arrives at the same time, its a real shame as Deadzones a great game but best played with tiddlywinks.
It is not the same stuff as the previous stuff. It is hard plastic on a sprue, like all those things you mentioned.
Fair enough….but I have had my fingers burnt before from Mantic and I’m not the only one………. and so with so many beautiful miniatures out there I’m not in a rush to give them another go but are glad to see they are at least moving on and up with the quality.
i think they mean hard plastic kits like this one specifically :
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/deadzone/enforcers/product/enforcer-peacekeepers.html
and not the sprueless plastic they used before….It looks like they are trying to move more towards those hard plastic sprues.
Dare i suggest that deadzone might be a good ..”boot camp ” game. My reasoning is as follows. Its very easy to learn, each game doesnt take a long time, objectives are handled by the mission cards so every game is different, it has a few faction to choose from, armies are quite small so quick to assemble and start painting, a faction starter is cheap, there is no need to make tables the game comes with a mat, building scenery for multiple tables would be fairly easy with the deadzone terrain, each game doesnt take alot of room and… Read more »
