This Week On Kickstarter…
Railroads
Or Railways as the real world knows them, opened up continents and enabled mass settlement of isolated interiors. Before the advent of rail, trade, migration and settlement were usually tied to water, for ease of access by the water craft that were to be found all around the world and for access to water for drinking.
The ease with which trains could transport goods, people and supplies across vast distances changed everything. From the Lithgow Switchback to Golden Spike, rail opened up opportunities for men willing to gamble. These men rode roughshod over the populations, but their industry was required so they were tolerated and the age of the Robber Barons had begun.
Aided by speculators with small networks whose tracks they could utilise and mergers between companies, these Robber Barons became rich and powerful. Are you one?
