Awesome vid. Thanks Romain. I am working on a marble base for a terrain piece and couldn’t figure out how to do the marbling. This is exactly what I needed.
Amazingly beautiful. I love it how you “dissect” the whole process into very manageable, well described steps.
Thanks ! This kind of comment will get you everywhere !
My “other” job is teaching, actually.
Strangely enough, my years of DMing for various RPGs prepared me waaaay more than anything else for that position…

You give the advice to go look at marble, and as luck would have it my family owns two pieces made from green marble; one small coffer (the word that best describes it) and an ashtray. The marble closely resembles the marble effect as shown by you.
now to find somewhere to use this, good work and thanks for another great video 🙂
Quick tip : It really looks cool on bases for noble or religious figures, and it’s easier on flat surfaces. Just use flat bases and put plasticard on them to make them smooth, and paint away. It’s also easier to varnish afterwards (glossy varnish only on marble effects !). I’ve based some Menoth priests on that. I didn’t like the look of them in the desert or on some grass, I wanted them just out of the temple… I did the marble in red, pink and ivory, to mirror the Menoth paint scheme. It looked neat ! There’s one example… Read more »
arrrrrgh I’ve been looking forward to this 2nd part and it won’t download.I’ll have check it out tomorrow
It works fine for me and most people… Maybe it’s a problem at your end.
Either way, I’m sorry !
Don’t apologies it was worth the wait for some reason my computer decided I should go to bed and watch it tomorrow
For someone with the time and patience, this would be real good for Eldar grav tanks.
Sure… Or the tomb king’s big beasties.
Well, to reduce the hassle, you can reasonably scale up the design, thus spending less time doing it.
Also, maybe only do certain parts of the tank.
If you’re using an airbrush, doing the “mottling” and blending is also quickier and easier. You have to do the veins and the contrasted areas with a paintbrush, though, I’m afraid.

For a thin line, just remove the airbrush tip. You should get about a 0.5mm soft line.
Just watched the vid and I was sat there thinking the same thing. I have quite a few Falcons & Wave Serpents I may give it a go
wow really amazing work you did there,
just wanted to ask how this marble effect works/looks like on models?
after your vid I’m thinking about painting my gatormen possies like that, the green marble is just too beautiful^^ and I’m not sure if it will look good on something other then a flat or smooth surface
It doesn’t work that well on rough surfaces or scales… The more edges you have to highlight, the less you see the marble effect, the sloppier it looks. I don’t think it’d work on gatormen… Even if you pull it off, I think it’d look out of place. Still, try it, you’ll see if you can pull it off (I’d be curious to see it as well), and you can always scrub the minis clean in Dettol and start again ! Maybe you could do it on small stone-ish ornaments, for circle orboros or trollbloods, or maybe for parts of… Read more »
