Battle In Warsaw During 1656 With New By Fire & Sword Releases
August 10, 2016 by brennon
By Fire & Sword welcomes some new additions to their range this month to match with a new sourcebook exploring battles during Warsaw in 1656.
This book contains rules for fighting out battles during this period and also details for the forces and commanders that would have been there too.
With that in mind a number of new sets have come out alongside the book including the Lithuanian Winged Hussars led by Aleksander Hilary Połubiński.
These riders would have taken part in one of the most daring attacks of the three day battle. Their charge managed to break many of the Swedish units holding the battlefield and King Gustav was nearly killed by the lance of a Hussar. Thankfully his guards sprang to his defence quickly!
Talking of King Carl X Gustav you can also get his Horse Guard Regiment too.
Interestingly from what they tell us of this regiment while they were a royal escort they had very few privileges normally reserved for men of their status. Instead they remained a front line unit and took part in many battles during this period of history.
What do you think of these new units?

Damn…I wish I knew people who play this game. I love the period and these minis look gorgeous.
You can join up on the wargamer forum and might find someone local I play Ottomans the community is great
I feel the exact same way. I watched this go past the kickstarter. Every time I see news from them I look through my social circles and find nobody even remotely interested in historicals.
Someday! until then I dream.
Those do look really good.
If my family reasearch is correct My ancestor was in one of the reiter regiments smashed by Połubiński^^!
The supplement is going to be great, I am planing to have a campaing around the battle were players command diffrent regiments with one overal general.
: D of course he was in a Reiter Regiment, after all you are a horse which I deliberately deducted from your avatar.
Yoshi for that pun you are now my best friend. I swear a oath that your foes will be my foes and I will carry your banner 😀
What good manners you have ! *opens a hand full of sugar cubes : D
I have to jump into this… later than sooner thou.. I am afraid to open the cabinet of waiting to be painted figures so they won’t eat me… 😉
This game (and the period of history) looks amazing, and incredibly interesting. I wish I knew someone to introduce me to the game too.
Also, were there other regiments of winged lancers besides these guys? I can’t believe this game has been going for years and not taken the opportunity to bring out winged lancer models before now!
This winged hussars set is limited edition, but they got another set available as well as a skirmish force containing winged hussars (Gosiewski foray)
nice troops.
This is a really good game. I picked it up a Rapier 2016. The figures are really nice. When you buy a unit box from them you get EVERYTHING needed for the unit. The Rule books are a little pricey but are also works of art and treasure troves of information. I am a history nut and this game has fueled my passion for a area that I previously new little about. Their terrain and game mats are also very high quality. The rules are well written and logical. They play very well and are quit intuitive once you have… Read more »
