Problems on YouTube
May 19, 2011 by beerogre
Many of you may have seen that our account on YouTube has suffered something of a snafu.
The reason for this is currently being investigated and our partners on YouTube should be back with more details soon.
In the meantime you can still catch us tonight on Justin TV, where we may have more information for you.
Keep your fingers crossed!
The BoW Team
I noticed it. I hope it gets resolved OK, I was just watching all warmachine videosn research of starting it and suddenely i couldn’t any more… 🙁
glad you updated this site as i could see a stream of ranting fanboyz frothing at the mouth with enforced cold turkey
So is your secret plan…break utube, justin.tv and twitter as well ?? 😉
see you at 8…doh…10
I blame Darrell.
You went over the cheese quota.
@nogginthenog wins….yes the great cheese scandal of May 2011
Which was that? There are so many I lose track of them.
Hope everything goes back to normal soon.
I was just watching your rant about GW, maybe its their job :D. You forgot to add that they are switching to cheaper material whilst increasing prices, and ban for retailers to deal with southern hemisphere. I am new to the hobby and now i know which company i have to avoid, thank you BOW.
I’ll see you guys in an hour, and show my support! I’m really curious about this whole youtube thing.
Let’s hope the accout is just kind of frozen, so you don’t lose all the content you have already uploaded.
Conspiracy theories are nearly always more fun than fact
Maybe Gw closed the account when they noticed Warren’s bad attitude. Expect a subpoena soon…We’ll soon learn that Andy’s goatee was previously copyrighted by GW, and Warren looks too much like Guy LeGros for that to be a coincidence….
NOOOO!!! I watch some of the bow vids on youtube because they sometimes get a bit laggy on here. But i come back here to comment. I try to use bow.com as much as the lag gods allow 🙂
Could this have possible been because of including adverts in your videos?.
Possibly, but we don’t think so at the moment.
According to the guidelines as long as we create the sponsorship vids (i.e. they are not TV ads) and we own the copyright of the sponsorship clips (which we do) they should be fine.
Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough 🙂
Hmm its silly that youtube would not at least contact you first and notify you that they have a concern about something in your videos, instead of nuke first and.. well you have to ask questions later :p.
There are circumstances where they might pull the trigger first and ask questions later.
For example if they got a legal threat or something along those lines. Im sure there may be other circumstances too though.
Anyway….
Keep Calm
And
Carry On
The problem is the ads include stores that discount GW products, and those adverts will be seen in countries outside of the EU and the USA.
This is in blatant contravention of GW’s new Fair Trade policies
It was inevitable, therefore, that GW would bring pressure to bear on You Tube to prevent the adverts seen in the exclusion zone.
GW’s Fair Trade Policies only apply to stores and not to the Press (believe it or not we actually fall under journalism here)
So its not ‘technically’ that. 🙂
You can’t be journos! don’t say that!
You guys are far too nice to be journos!
creep creep! lol
gw got a superconjuntion out against you
Id say for new gamers BoW was easily the best advertisement online for GW, cutting their nose off to spite there face.
From some of the posts on forums they’re already doing that, or is the hate just general for GW ATM? 😀
Mystery Guest?
Please let it be Alexis!!! *pray*
its a really odd development, I honestly cannot think of any sane reason why Youtube would do that.
Been legally threatened though has the taste of some known company.
So what is this suspicion?
Maybe the Games Workshop Design Studio channel was sick of being outclassed…..? I suggest a strongly worded letter. Had Obi Wan used such a method when Anankin turned I doubt the Empire would have grown into the evil poor-pension-offering corporation it became…
awwwwwwww… come on!!…ah well, at least I can still chat with my freinds about wargaming 🙂
Yeah I knew it wasn’t that Warren, was just being a tad cynical with tongue firmly in cheek.
I am just rather taken aback by this week’s events and feel for the guys who are already stumping up more than the rest of us being hit by the denial of access to online discounts.
I would very much like to know if what GW has done confirms with trading standards as it seems like a restrictive practice and contravenes free trading. It is not my area of expertese, but then again nothing is! lol
Just hope that it comes back online soon guys – love watching your videos during the day while I paint/write.
could be due to profiting from the content –http://www.youtube.com/t/terms , as per section 4 of their terms of use, content needs to be royalty-free – “You agree not to use the Service for any of the following commercial uses unless you obtain YouTube’s prior written approval: • the sale of access to the Service; • the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the Service or Content; or • the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions on any page of an ad-enabled blog or website containing Content delivered via the Service, unless other material not obtained from… Read more »
This is the reason in my opinion.
Keep doing vids, guys!!!
They can´t stop the waves that end on the beach, so we win!!!
dont forget where you are based tell them to get it sorted or your uncle be round to kneecap them
Well, GW has been a little heavy handed as of late, the price Increase is one, removal of all online retailers selling products that do not have a physical store ( ie MiniwargamingUK, Maelstrom etc) and the pulling of all metal models for the new finecast stuff. Way to shoot your self in the foot.
In the area of banning sales to the southern hemisphere I don’t think you can ban the export of goods to certain countries unless it’s for a reason of security ie sending certain electronic goods to Iraq, I know countries can ban certain goods from being imported but I don’t hink it works the other way round if GW don’t want to trade with Australia due to shipping costs that is there worry I can’t see that they can legally stop anyone else from doing it
but they can stop selling you stuff …legality is in question but no goods= no sale for suppliers
I always knew Youtube would screw BOW over after they made their own site. At first they slowed the video buffering, but they were not satisfied with this. So in an act of great vengeance, Youtube nuked itself so it wouldn’t be useful to BOW. DAMN YOU GOOGLE!
This has to do with the ads probably. As someone else noted: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms General Use of the Service—Permissions and Restrictions YouTube hereby grants you permission to access and use the Service as set forth in these Terms of Service, provided that: […] D.You agree not to use the Service for any of the following commercial uses unless you obtain YouTube’s prior written approval: -the sale of access to the Service; -the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the Service or Content; or -the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions on any page of an ad-enabled blog… Read more »
I would think a warning would be forthcoming rather than a yank…but google does have “dont be evil” as its motto after all
Then why are Big utube fan sites, like Opticnation, who have Evil controller adds, not go down?
probably because no one has complained… generally these kind of sites dont react to things unless a complaint has been lodged by someone
