Warlord’s Next Tiger Gets a Coat of Zimmerit
January 1, 2015 by dracs
Warlord Games will soon be releasing a new variant of the Tiger I. This one will be safe from all magnetic mines thanks to its zimmerit coating.
Zimmerit was applied to German tanks from 1943-1944 as a way to combat magnetic mines. It was used to prevent the mines from getting attached firmly to the tank's metal surface and was often applied in a ridged pattern to increase the distance it held the mines off of the tank's shell. Warlord have recreated this ridged texture well on this tank, marking it out clearly as one safe from magnetic attacks.
Can you tell us just how effective zimmerit was?
looks good.
Very nice.
Zimmerit made it difficult to attach magnetic mines to the hull of a tank even though such weapons were not as popular with allied forces as they were with the Germans.
The biggest drawback was the production time it added to manufacture of Tanks so for these reasons it’s application was ceased in the autumn of 1944.
Looks very good . This wouldn’t happen to be Warlord’s next kit in plastic would it ? Sure looks like a plastic tiger
Was this Tiger just kind of “temporarily” put together for the photo to show off the Zimmerit? I can’t help but notice the glaring gaps between the pieces. I know Warlord makes awesome kits, so I guess this model just wasn’t glued together?
Hey @oriskany off topic I know but have you seen this months Wargames Illustrated it has a nice article about gaming Oriskany
Nice! I found the preview on Flames of War. Definitely a small battle, but incredibly violent, probably still the bloodiest single battle in American history if measured in terms of the number of people involved . . . especially since practically everyone on BOTH sides was American! Didn’t really decide much in its own right, but together with other upstate New York battles in the summer of ’77 like Fort Stanwix, Hubbardton, and Bennington, went a huge way toward influencing First and Second Freemans Farm (Saratoga) . . . which definitely DID decide a few things. 🙂 http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=101&art_id=4703
A very nice looking Tiger 1.
Great looking model.
