Warlord Reveal a Resin Mystery Tank
December 29, 2014 by dracs
Warlord Games have published an image showing a resin tank that will be coming out in the new year. But what type of tank is it?
Over on Warlord's Facebook, people have been making a couple of guesses with a couple saying it is a KV-85 while another says the turret is from a T34.
Whatever it is, the model keeps up with Warlord's great standards of realism and attention to detail. It will be cool to see the finished miniature when it is released come the new year.
Can you tell us what tank this is?
Is it a KV-1S?
It’s a KV-85: – A KV-1S with the 85mm D-5T cannon in a new turret, with the ball mounted hull machine gun removed and the hole welded shut, 148 of these tanks were produced in the second half of 1943 until the spring of 1944; they were a stopgap until the IS tank series entered production.
apparently the bow mg was moved to the other side of the driver who now had to operate it (wikipedia). I checked the ASL listing for the KV85 and it has one listed, with a modifier for “fixed mg”. very limited field of fire probably.
with the front high like that, It may be an experimental amphibious tank with a later T34,85 turret?
That’s definitely a KV chassis (small torsion-bar road wheels instead of the larger christie-typse wheels on a T-34). My guess would either be a KV-85 or one of the very few JS-1s produced. It sounds like @aresgow2000 has the gun identified (the 85mm instead of the 100mm) which would nail it down as a KV-85. Again, a pretty rare tank, the Soviets didn’t produce many of these things, especially in comparison to T-35/85, SU series assault guns and tank destroyers, and JS-2 “breakthrough” tanks.
I wish they’d put gun barrels like that in the kit…
Steel or preferably aluminium gun barrels and mg barrels would be a joy (pricey but probably well worth it).
Anything that led to the Stalins is a glorious thing! 🙂
Looks like a late 1943 – 1944 mishmas.
Barrel 85mm, Turret looks very much like IS, and he chassis is definately KV.
Right, which is what leads me to maybe guess . . . KV-85 or early-production JS-1???
I’d recognize a kv85 anywhere. Although the turret looks similar to that of a t34-85, it’s actually a modified form of the prototype IS-1’s turret (obj.237).
