You Sir, are a vlogging machine. Thank you I look forward to it.
looking forward to seeing you approach to the camo, can understanding your reticence in doing a Waffen SS army but interested to see them get the John Lyons treatment
looking forward to this, I’m about halfway through my SS camo units for BA. using a mixture of Peadot and oakleaf patterns.
The mortar did outstanding damage yesterday in the Sealion game 😉 Well worth it
With having 30 minis I would break it down to 3 10 man units.
but you need to have command figures in there, so that limits you
I’ve got the plastic Brit para boxset sitting waiting to be made. Hopefully this will inspire
Looking forward to seeing you progress with this project!
Painting dots is rather therapeutic 😎
Wholeheartedly agree, found it very calming and zen like 😉
Oh, I found it chuffing monotonous!
Looks nice though when it’s all done 🙂
Looking forward, I am looking to build a SS army for Flames of war. Is a smaller scale but maybe I can use some techniques shown here! When can we backstagers win this painted army 😉 ?
Are there any actual equipment changes from the German Grenadiers box to the SS box. I know the poses are changed, but is there anything else beyond paint job that separates them?
The main difference is that they are wearing the camo smocks, rather than the Zeltbhans. And when they don’t have the smocks on you can see they wear the eagle emblem on their right arm, which the SS did over the Whermacht units.
So, not to get ahead of you as this will be a big project, but I think a great next step would be a blog of Konflikt 47 stuff. Seems like it would be a cool culmination for the project. 1) tank war stuff 2) add infantry for a real bolt action game 3) complete some “weird” units for those into weird world war 2. Would be a cool idea for a few reasons: 1) show off painting something other than standard historical WW2 units (werewolves!) 2) Konflikt 47 just released its Resurgence expansion 3) when you guys first covered… Read more »
It would be fun to do a vlog on “Konflicting” our existing armies 🙂
I agree this would be a great idea as the games both share a similar rule set and will give you multiple units to use in both games!
Seeing armies built from scratch to finish is great idea for a topic 🙂
It helps show beginners how to approach such a thing.
Thought the tank army Vlogs were great, looking forward to the building and painting of these armies. I am really interested in the camouflage patterns for the infantry and how they will fit together with the armor and guns in the project.
I’ve painted SS camo one time but it was at a smaller scale. I used basically the same camo painting techniques with slightly different /appropriate colors and painted little dots on them. It came out great. Too good really, they blended into the tabletop too well. 😀
I’m looking forward to seeing how it is done at 28mm!
Did a group of my SS in pea dot.
Basecoated them in a tan and then put splotches of green and brown on them. Followed that with very small dots of all three colors putting at least two dots on each splotch. Then used agrax earthshade. THought it worked out quite nice for my first try at SS camo. Definitely not a professional though!
Looking forward to this VLOG though to see how to improve my current technique. Thanks for tackling this @johnlyons
looks a well balanced unit box will be interesting to see the camo patterns.
I went with the Oakleaf pattern on mine. i love the way they just disappear into the table
Oh, you have a Tiger Panzer in your backyard.
You really dont want to get rid of it?
Just pick me. I’ll do the job.
Fun by side, I was also thinking of building up an SS unit for a Kampfgruppe Peiper. I am still working on my Panzergrenadiere. So I am enjoying watching the problems you are confronted with:-) because I am sure you will find the perfect solution.
Looking forward to this Vlog John i am converting a SS platoon to use with my Panzer Grenadiers but using extra grenadiers..but now they have brought these out well i will watch your Vlog with interest to see if my SS army will be on my Christmas list…
Looking forward to watching this set of V-logs, as i really enjoyed the last V-logs of the German and American tanks. I may be watching this late, but better late than never.
I think i`d start with the force layout on the side of the box, and build on it from there. It makes life simple, and your not having to keep second guessing yourself on composition of each squad.
