I don’t think the troops need any more highlighting but that will depend on your basing scheme. If there is good contrast between the troops and the base, you shouldn’t need to highlight them.. but if they two blend in to one another you might need to make the troops ‘pop’ more.
Also, I know exactly what you mean about applying the anti-shine. It turns a “Hmm I’m not sure I did the right thing.” feeling into a “Oh sweet, that actually looks pretty good!” feeling 😀
sorry to say this John, I do like your work , but I will be happy when this series is over…constantly seeing ‘Waffen SS” in articles while browsing for hobby news and fun is off-putting.
(YMMV)
I can totally understand. But we are nearing the final few days. Still. I do hope it has been informative.
very informative series John. Thank you. I see using some of these on my imperial guard.
@johnlyons: have you ever had any issues with frosting when varnishing through an airbrush? If so, do you do anything specific to avoid it?
Ive only had those issues when spraying in a cold room and when there is no thinner of flow improver in the varnish. (i used to thin with water which didn’t help much)
I normally run the anti shine through my air brush undiluted. I’ll have to try thinning it up a bit next time.
they do look better after a coat of anti shine. I was worried that the dip was washing out all the colour.
@maledrakh I’ve never had a problem with frosting using it through an air brush, unlike those pesky cans! It also means that I don’t have to wait for perfect weather conditions to go and spray outside.
Wow, dramatic results with the anti-shine. Will have to give the quickshade another go. I have some British Infantry (Zulu Wars) that are likely to be the test models. Thanks.
Also think the extra highlighting probably not needed.
At first I thought you lost the camo from the way the video looked but looking at the photo it is still there. I don’t know if you can highlight it a little to bring it out a little more though.
I’m hooked to dip already. After I saw you use it on the first Hobby Night Live on the Space Wolf and I won a Army Painter voucher that evening. I decided I was going to use it buy dip and just see what I can do with it. Since then I’ve been hooked.
Great results, has been a very informative series. As for highlighting, the only area I would consider is the flesh. think it would make them pop.
I’d agree with @elysium64 – the only thing that for me needs highlighting is the flesh. Watching the anti-shine go on feels like magic 🙂
I’m still a fan of the canned matte varnish. Big time save for me and I usually hold all my guys till I have a big batch and the wife is out of the house! It only frosts on me in cold or damp weather.
On highlighting I don’t think they need any!
Great series of Vlogs and very informative.
I would agree with the other comments and highlight the flesh, as it seems to blend in with the other greens.
they look good none to very little highlight’s I think john.
probably something as simple as a very subtle dry brush in selected areas.
