I think I’ll have to get this Micro Sol. The transfers are really looking great on the Zimmerit.
Ha, Cuckoo looks cool.
Micro Sol and Micro Set, Heaven sent for getting transfers onto zimmerit.
When putting transfers onto flat surfaces, do you put a layer of gloss varnish on before the transfers at all?
I always use a gloss to give you a flat surface to adhere to and also to hide the silvering from the decal film. Gloss varnish sandwich and you’re protected and good to go
Yup, me too.
Crazy tank markings? The Sherman Easy 8 and Pershing with tiger faces painted across the front from the Korean War?
I was thinking of those exact ones myself
Also, some of the German stuff from the last days of the war, primer red with salvaged hatches and wheels with camo paint on them. Finished in the factory and driven straight out to fight.
theres a picture of a Tiger 1 with the end of the muzzle brake painted with tiger teeth and eyes.
looking well, that Tiger 2 is really distinctive. It’s a great way to make it stand out….while at the same time not standing out 😉
I’d always thought that MicroSet was put down before the decal, then MicroSol afterwards. I’ll have to try it with MicroSol first as well, see what kind of difference it makes.
Also, kudos for being brave enough to mess with the decals while the MicroSol is still active! Every video I’ve ever seen says *don’t touch it!* 😀
I’d say after 5 minutes of it sitting still is when I would not touch it again 🙂
You can use set first. It cleans dust and grease helping to key it. It is not necessary, if I could only have one it would be the sol. Obviously both in concert are best especially when it’s a really difficult surface for placement
the tanks are look great now.
It’s A Squadron triangle
B Squadron square
and C Squadron circle
Some tank regiments also named their tanks with the name starting with the letter of the Squadron. I run a couple of squads of North Irish Horse from B squadron in Flames of War. Their tanks were all named after towns and villages in their home area such as Belfast, Ballybay, Boyne and Bangor.
C Squadron had a tank named Coleraine.
One of my ambitions is to convert the Warlord Churchill to back date it to a Mk I. The North Irish Horse had a couple in Tunisia in the command section that they added Panzer III cupolas to, and I’ve seen a couple of references that state the 2 pounder and 3″ howitzer were swapped around, with the 3″ put in the turret, still not sure if this is right though. Sadly the website for the North Irish Horse which had loads of good info appears to be defunct now. Just trying to figure out the shape of the Mk… Read more »
I never knew that. But then my NIH are more based around the Italian campaign – not looked too much at the North Africa campaigns. My NIH support my 7th Gurkhas in a semi historical army built around the V Corps assault on the Gothic Line.
And I say get your craft knife out and start converting – I think it would look pretty cool once completed and certainly a talking point!
From what I remember as far as Irish Guards go.
HQ squadron named it’s tanks after large towns/cities then proceeded with the same comvention above for the other squadrons.
My ideal tank army is a full “A” Squadron of Irish Guards 🙂 I’ve nearly got two troops done 🙂
The Mk I turret was a different cast shape than the IV as well as smaller , might be better to make up a box of plastic card and build up from there with green stuff . I Didn’t the NIH also have a Mk i with the howitzer mounted in both the hull and the turret ? I ‘ve seen pictures but can’t remember which unit it served with
Liking the idea of the brush on the transfers, will have to give it a go.
