This was an awesome series to go through. Thanks for all of your work on this, John!
Great series. Almost a shame you couldn’t squeeze out just one more part to make it an even 20 parts! 😀 Maybe an upcoming battle report (your suggested scenarios) to round out the 20. 😀 I like how the German platoons are set up, with the Tigers and Tiger IIs in their own unit. Much more historically accurate that way. I also like the setting, in Germany, very VERY late war, which is when you start seeing things like the M26 Pershing. 😀 And the size of the table looks great for the number of tanks on this scale.
I think in my head the Pershing being in the US forces had decided the setting for me. I always come back to the Pershing hunting the Panther in that footage that has been slowed and examined so many times on youtube now.
Let battle commence!
Going to be a fun game to watch I think
epic project and thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed this series. Thank you. My ‘paint along with John’ project – the 50+ Rohirrim are nearly done too. I did the strong tone ‘dip’ this morning and then I’ll be matt coating them tomorrow. Unlike the tanks though I still have some work to do on the basing. Very enjoyable seeing the progress every day and you definitely kept me motivated to finish what had been a stuck project. Thanks again and looking forward to the next one.
Glad I could help 😀
So you’re gonna play hide and seek? 🙂
Nice scenario and a decent table size. Not easy with the 28mm scale.
And as @oriskany already mentioned a plausible setting for time and region.
deadly Hide and seek
Looking forward to the game
Great series John, you’ve inspired me to get my kits out of the loft and blow off the cobwebs!
Great series, not sure about the Chaffee being platoon leader, if you just give it recce that would encourage the American player to use it more as a scout rather than just a light tank.
But, a light tank against the tanks like the german list won;t stand much chance, Giving it and the Hellcat Recce may bring up some interesting situations.
Very interesting though what I meant was in making the Chaffee an objective it is more likely to be left at the back in hiding and not out on recon. What if you made one of the Axis objectives to bring the anti tank unit down to half strength, knocking out the main threat to the Big Cats before they spearhead a German counter attack along the main road. Man I watch too many Battlefield videos!
There is an account of a chaffee taking out a Tiger by firing at close range with its HE which set off the Tigers ammo store
Two weeks ago my jagdpanther took on my mates Chaffee head on in a game of Tank War, missed and was then blown to pieces by the chaffee’s return fire. One of them moments you never forget.
@johnlyons Do you have the 2017 Historicon Kurt Knispel Top tank ace model figure?
I have one that I can drop off with Justin at Historicon tomorrow if you don’t have him yet. John
Meant to say drop off at Essen Spiel
I don’t have him, but don;t tempt me 😛
He’s yours. I dropped him off with Justin yesterday.
Thats so awesome! I can’t wait to see him. Thank you so much!
Have to admit this has been one of my favourite articles on beasts of war. Really want to get a move on with my k47 tank force now
I think you should make Warzan play the AMERICANS, he’ll squeal like a little girl every time he moves a tank into a vulnerable position.
That seems like a really cool scenario, especially the long table; opportunities for long range sniping for the 88s and give the Americans some room to out manoeuvre or rush past the Germans if they spread too thin. Have you looked at the crew experience skills in Tank War, might be nice to give the players a couple of random rolls or choices before the game? Any off table artillery planned? Can be useful for getting pins down on defending units or forcing them to relocate once the arty ranges in or risk being KO’d or for the defenders to… Read more »
Great series from start to end. Like the scenario too. Keeps it as real as you can for the table top. Using crew experience is cool too. Once scenario played, think of adding an infantry platoon or two for the US and hardened airborne / SS for the Germans, makes things even more interesting with foot sluggers about. Looking forward to the game VLog.
I think all the tanks look amazing, you wouldn’t look at any of them and think they were done as a “fast” painting project. I can’t wait for the battle report, I haven’t looked forward to a video this much since Opration Sea Lion.
a fantastic week john love the videos and the end results look fabulous.
A lot of tanks protecting a few tank destroyers from some tanks seems…kind of wacky.
this was a very interesting series. please do more.
in this last video, there are some distractingly loud and sqeaky-nosed breathing noises, presumably by whomever is handling the camera…
Nice series! Gona get the airbrush out again and do my own fast painting project. Wich colors would you use on a Canadian Armed force? Any different colors than British?
Largely from what I’ve seen they used the same base green. For my Brits I use Vallejo “refractive green” It seems pretty close.
@johnlyons great series Sir! Really enjoyed it 🙂
When’s the battle going to be played out? I’m guessing it’s going to be broadcast right?
A belated thank you – great series and some good discussions in the comments.
I like the scenario you propose however, given the scale, is there a risk that the long table becomes a bottleneck for the Americans? For the middle table, is it worth placing two 6’x4′ tables width wise to create a little more room and options for out flanking on that part of the battlefield?
