I gotta say I’m very proud of you @johnlyons this has been great mate 🙂
Really impressed with the narrative details – I would NEVER have thought of those mate! Well Done 🙂
What about the Ludendorf bridge at Remagen or something around that area? It’s very late in the war and the Americans had to fight against some parts of different units. For example parts from 506 sPz.Btl., 507 sPz.Btl. and SS Pz.Brg. Westfahlen.
The Germans could be given some limitations for driving around or shooting because off supply shortage. Perhaps randomly… throw some dice to dicide if there is enough supply to use all abbilities with all tanks.
Yes, we regularly play limited ammo for late war Germans, anything from D6 to 3xD3 rounds of main gun ammo. Limited fuel can be fun as well, each vehicle has, as an example, 12 + 3D6 inches of movement before it runs dry. Does mean a bit of book keeping during the game though. Scenario ideas; fighting withdrawal, the Germans have to keep a road clear for X number of turns for a retreating convoy to get clear, then retire to the board edge to meet up with a fuel bowser for a tactical victory. if any allied units get… Read more »
Oh, and the Panther looks cool as well, love the hurried replacement/salvaged bits, adds real character.
Exceptional well done series of vlogs. Learned quite much.
fantastic week @johnlyons I’ve really enjoyed watching the progress throughout.
I seem to remember three very handsome men talking about skewed scenarios for Dunkirk week, there are a lot of interesting ways you can game that. I’ve not read the Tank War rules though, so I’m not sure if there are any helpful mechanics in that to help you
Wonderful vlog series, enjoyed it very much and am waiting for the battle royal which I hope will be in real time with uncut expletives to the dice Gods. Having experienced the heart dropping game of losing 5 Panthers to 1 Sherman because someone upstairs had a wicked sense of humour it would be nice to hear someone else cry ” roll to hit, $¥<%Ing 1 again". Sigh.
Seeing as I am more of a painter instead of a player, I’ve been enjoying the @johnlyons weeks we’ve had recently. I have a question about the tools on a tank, though. If tank camo is painted in the field, would the tools have been left on the hull and painted as well to help blend them in, or would they have been left off prior to painting and attached afterwards?
I feel like the German tanks were painted without the tools. I don’t have much or any evidence to backup this. And from what I know of allied vehicles, the tools came pre-painted in Olive drab/black. But there is so many different views on this.
I have seen tools being sold at shows that were brand new out of the box that both came with and without paint applied. So that suggests to me that it may have been down to decisions made by the manufacturers.
Thanks!
There are pictures various books of vehicles with missing tools and tow cables , where you can see the outline on the hull , so they were over painted . Other pictures show the tools were painted in factory and added later as they are a different color to the hull to which they are attached . I guess it depended on wether you were away from a combat area and had time to un hook everything and put it all back after . Your Company Commander might also have an opinion on how you did the job
Great series of vlogs – really enjoyed them and learnt something (even if I’ve gone off topic on tank naming conventions 🙂 ) I was also going to suggest that limited ammo and limited fuel for the Germans would help balance things out but I see I’ve been beaten to it. You could also try staggering the German tanks entrance onto the field of battle, as they rush forward to stop the allied advance. Another alternative would be to give the Allies some off table artillery support or air strikes. But having different win conditions for each side (the tactical… Read more »
Remember guys, I will be kicking back into this series on Monday! Plenty more to go through and discuss 😉
amazing work John, keep these locked away…… next time I’m up they all might disappear, even the US tanks 😉 😉
looking forward to the next set of vids
@johnlyons – that Panther is gorgeous sir! Been trying to resist adding one to my army as there’s no space in my case for it but my god you make it difficult! 😀
Liking some of the special rules noted above – limited ammo / fuel for the germans.
Maybe try pinching a rule from “old” 40k – Ongoing reserves? Once an Allied unit is destroyed it goes into ongoing reserves (apart from the Pershing) and comes on from their table edge the next turn? In terms of capturing a town, 3 objectives to capture perhaps?
Wonderful series so far, looking forward to more!
Great series @johnlyons, looking forward to the rest of the series.
the tanks are looking great with the addition’s/repairs.
I’ve really enjoyed this series. Its inspired me to dig out a Cromwell kit that’s been sitting in my hobby pile for ages and get it sorted! 🙂
Let us see it in the forums when you get stuck in 🙂
Great little series this week, looking forward to following it again next week!
