Not what it was built for but the trenches would make great terrain for a Gaslands canyon racer/combat scenario
I can tell already the tables will look amazing when done, top work and I cannot wait to play on them….. and then steal one in my Mary Poppins bottomless bag.
Happy to send you an RE guide to sand bag construction @johnlyons. If you had laid them like that in my troop, our Staffy would have had you doubling around the trench with one above your head ???
Great additions to the boards lads. Just one point on the ramps and landings. We would not have used timber as it would be too scarce, It would have been crushed rock. Try putting some grit down into the DAS clay and then some sand in any gaps, that might give you the different look you’re after.
Think we could have done with your staffy in 81 when laying out the bunkers for RAF Digby, we were just given a pile of empty bags a sand pitt and told to get on with it. All our NCO’s were Tel’s like us so had no more idea than we did.
We’re zeroing in on a particular spot / time in the Desert War for the Optional Campaign in which Boot Camp players can participate if they want … a historical juncture in the Desert War that will be most appropriate for the units in the kits included, the tables being built, etc. Suffice it to say we’re definitely including a historical campaign / battle in which these trench tables (and light urban boards and heavier urban boards) will have pride of place. 😀 The trench tables seriously look awesome already! I concur with @brucelea re: crushed rock.
Kitty Litter (the cheap, non-clumping kind), could work great to achieve that crushed rock effect on the foam.
@oriskany nice pics, sort of sum what I have been currently reading about how the defences of Tobruk evolved over the 1st siege from the intial make do with the original Italian lines.
Looking good. Going to be a great table.
Does it really need duckboards though, weren’t they more for muddy trenches? Not really seen much in the way of duckboards in the desert in photos, not much wood to cut up to make them. Aren’t they more likely to be lined with sandbags? Not trying to be a smart arse, just that you may do a load of work that you don’t need to that ends up looking a bit out of place?
A Twitch streamer I watch, StudioJ7, does make quite a bit of cosplay props and stuff. He thins his contact adhesive, this makes it easier to apply thin coats and makes a can of adhesive last longer.
Their looking good Guy’s love the extra work with the sand bags and duck board’s.
Seriously EXCITED about the Bootcamp!
