The Rumble Of The Puma Sounds For Bolt Action & Warlord
December 8, 2014 by brennon
The rumbling engine of the Puma Sd.Kfz 234/2 Armoured Car that we looked at on The Weekender is up for pre-order on the Warlord Games website for the rather spiffing Bolt Action...
This really is an awesome addition to the German army in Bolt Action and I love the look of it! The Puma was a great scouting vehicle and could reach speeds of 50 miles per hour. If it got into trouble it also sported a KwK 30 50mm gun for putting holes in enemy armour if needs be.
As we found out when John put it together, this comes with a whole bunch of great detail including all of the different bits and bobs underneath.
As Justin said on The Weekender it would be perfect to send a couple of these up the flanks to get behind your enemies armour and then harass them with these maneuverable vehicles.
What do you think?
I read somewhere that these are among the best selling German vehicles for WW2, while being comparatively rare in the actual war.
But who can blame people? They’re so cool! Puma will be high on my shopping list if I ever branch out into doing WW2 Jerry.
Yeah my thoughts exactly, great gun great armour (for what it is) just all round greatness….
I really like these. To echo what has been said about their rarity, according to the Bolt Action Armies of Germany book, there were only 100 made. Whether or not it will be historically accurate, there will be one added to the German Normandy force I plan on building.
Sexy vehicle, and one of my favourites from WWII. I’ve always taken a few in whatever game system I’m playing in. So why is it that Warlord can make a 1/56 scale vehicle for under $30, and a rather complicated one at that, and GW can’t make one, with no research involved, for under $100? I mention this because the model looks like it would also have some good near future conversion possibilities. If you change up the turret, add some peripheral stuff, like bins, and maybe some reactive armour or a little plasticard, you could change the profile and… Read more »
Predator. 35 British pounds sterling = 54.7164 US dollars… And that’s a kit with moving sponsons as well as the turret…
Much better… only twice as much. I guess I’ve been seeing too many Forgeworld prices lately.
Also, I did the vehicle sort thing on the GW site and never got beyond the first two pages of tanks that were all in the 85 pound range.
Now all I can think of is the Puma scene from RedvsBlue…
Not so keen on the hollow inner tyre walls on the 8 road wheels – it is quite obvious and strikes me as odd considering they went to so much bother with the steering and suspension details.
I suppose a lot of filler would do the job.
I’ve noticed that whenever a German army fields one of these in a game . . . the German player many times has a nigh-obsessive compulsion to protect it. More than Panthers or Tigers or 88s, they get real depressed when a Puma gets wrecked. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s because players imagine themselves as the “commander,” riding around in one of these things things and directing the kampfgruppe . . . and when it gets hit, well . . . you’re out of the battle! 🙂
I just got done playing a Puma, which survived by hanging back mostly out of the fray. My commander was chilling next to it in a halftrack sporting a 37mm auto cannon. Which actually has a slightly higher defensive value in PB/PL.
I think the SdKfz 251 half track (base chassis for the 37mm FlaK) has a lower profile, which accounts for its slightly higher DF (??) That’s a guess.
That looks really nice.
Is this the 1/48 puma that Italeri already make or is this a new kit ?
It’s a new kit in 1:56. All the Warlord/Italeri plastics are designed with wargames in mind, so less fiddly pieces than a scale model.
