Roll Out Waves Of New Plastic StuG For Bolt Action With Warlord
March 23, 2015 by brennon
Warlord Games seem to have been on Warren's wavelength when it comes to tanks and the latest big plastic kit that's coming to pre-order is the StuG III Ausf G or StuH-42 plastic box that allows you to make both variants for Bolt Action...
As mentioned above this set allows you to make two variants of the StuG for use on the battlefield in either Tank Wars or the basic version of Bolt Action. The first of the builds is for the StuG III Ausf G which is the classic StuG that you've come to know and love...
...and the second variant of the tank comes with a rather nasty looking howitzer that was manned by the artillery troops originally since it was effectively a massive gun platform on the move. Check it out below.
Both of these tanks were so well loved because they have heavy front armour and a low profile making them perfect for ambushes and having a pop at practically any enemy armour they faced up against. It comes to something that they had more kills tallied up by the end of the war than any other German vehicle.
Both of these kits look really fun and I think I might have to pick up two of these boxes to help support my infantry going forward. That also reminds me to buy more infantry!
What do you think of these StuG?

Bolt Action have certainly kept the ball rolling on armoured production. Great range of AFV’s have been released for a scale that was always sadly lacking decent wargaming kits. 🙂
Some Stug love for BA.
The Stug is one of my favourite AFVs of WW2, I’m a bit annoyed I bought so many 1/48 kits now as BA have released so many great plastic kits recently :/
Now I need scale tree trunks
Will Warren be doing the unboxing of this one as he really is a Stugg Fan
You can never have too many StuG’s.
It’s a shame that Italeri prices are ridiculously high for the quality of their products.
Quick question for any German speakers / those knowledgable:
Is it pronounced “Stoog” (hard G) or “Stug”?
I’ve only ever heard “stoog.” That’s shorthand for SturmGeschutz, and that is actually pronounced “shterm.” But a StuG, by any other name, is still a StuG 🙂 .
Please, please, please don’t make the same mistake as all the other media by calling anything with tracks a tank!
Regards, a frustrated ex tank commander
In my brief stints in the light infantry we just called everything an “army car.” Is that bad, too?
I am surprised that this model is less detailed than the former. The undercarriage is too smooth and streamlined, as the Panzer IV. Too Bad.
I’ll hurry to order the old before it gets out of the catalog.
The Stug Zug sounds interesting – a sprue of the new Panzergrenadiers will be included, though I think for an army I would prefer to support the infantry with a mixture of Panzers, Stugs and one big cat to freak out the opposition 🙂
If you really want 3 Stugs, and I do, wait until Warlord release the 3 tank boxed set – included is a sprue of the new Late German infantry.
Is it just me or is that box art just a little World of Tanks-ified?
I’m pretty sure Italeri are out-pacing Germany’s actual wartime production of tanks by now… awesome stuff!! Get some Sturmi’s for my up n coming Finnish force 😀
So many tanks. I’ll need some if these for a proper Panzer Force!
stugs nice.
I think the Stug is a great vehicle, but I think I would buy the Rubicon models one. Choice of Early / Mid / Late production – Option to assemble vehicle as a StuH 42 with 105mm Howitzer – Choice of original trapezoid-shape mantlet or the Topfblende pot mantlet (often called Saukopf “Pig’s head”) gun mantlet with or without coaxial mount – Detachable Schürzen (side armour) – Optional rear stowage rack – Optional spare road wheels – Optional periscope Number of Parts: 54 pieces / 3 sprues This kit is in the right scale and you can build more options… Read more »
@s14forever : Thank you for the information.
No hesitation, the Rubicon model is a level above and for the same price! There are more assembly work but no need to install the additional armor to hide gallets and coarse details.
It’s a nice kit, but the Rubicon kit seems like it will be more bang for the buck. Honestly, Warlord might need to step up their game when it comes to vehicle kits. Rubicon is making some nice stuff.
