Bolt Action Locked & Loaded – Tank Assault Tactics
May 13, 2016 by dignity
In this episodes tips and tactics Warlord Games' Chez is showing John what happens when you use a vehicle to assault a unit and also what happens when a vehicle IS assaulted itself in Bolt Action.
The grenades and a hefty weight of metal don't tend to make for a good time for anyone involved.
What are your tactics for getting rid of vehicles. Do you take tanks to match them or do you like to get stuck in and throw sticky bombs on the tracks?
Watch Locked & Loaded XLBS where we look at ways of getting more out of your units activations
Let us know your tactics below...
Tanks assaulting infantry works pretty good if they are all bunched up (such as sitting on an objective) and you run over multiple units. My first game of Bolt Action had my Sherman run over 3 units that way. As for infantry assaulting tanks, you need to have the largest sized squad you can manage to generate a decent enough penetration modifier. Look at is this way, if you need 4+ roll to get a +1 penetration a 10 man squad will average a +5 penetration which is the same as a Bazooka or medium anti-tank gun. I agree with… Read more »
nice work guys .
I’d do it in two situations. First, against an open topped vehicle. Second, in an urban environment where I could consolidate back into cover.
But I wouldn’t do it in either unless I had AT grenades and I rarely take them because they are so situational.
Honestly, if the need arises, I’d do it. Main reason is that sometimes you don’t need to use a tank to fight a tank, particularly where your tank has two potential targets. If you can even just pin one vehicle with infantry before it can activate then you can hamper it’s ability to retaliate and thus even the playing field when outnumbered. Yeah, it’s risky, but we use dice to determine results; everything is risky. 😛
its a very tom hanks death or glory move.
Yes I play Russians and yes I charge tanks 🙂 but not Tigers as that is a waste of time. Early war it is very effective, mid war a little, late war not so much. I usually have two squads kitted out with AT grenades and one with captured Panzerfausts.
I wouldn’t do it. Panzerfaust is a way to go IMHO.
I see the chance of beating a tank with gernades. It’s tough but it should be. The question I’m wondering is his infantry crossed and obstacle to attack. I though you couldn’t give a run order to cross an obstacle.
If you are up against the obstacle, you can.
Is that in the rulebook?
