Bolt Action 2.0 Locked & Loaded: Organising Multiple Platoons
September 1, 2016 by dignity
In today's episode John and Rich are explaining multiple platoons in your Bolt Action armies, how and when to use them, and how to organise them appropriately. Often platoons would not be used in smaller games however they're a great feature now in Bolt Action 2.0 for larger tournaments and you can pull off some nifty tactics too!

What set of armies would you include in your platoons?
Nice video. As someone new to BA, I hadn’t realised that multiple platoons was a viable option.
I think this video was literally made for just you. While I am glad that Beasts of War have more B.A.L.L.S., I think they could have put together something more than, “If you want two of a unit that you are only allowed one, take a second platoon.”
Maybe they need to break it out as new BALLS and old BALLS or … never mind that tangent isn’t ready for a family show. 🙂
I will admit I would have like to have seen a breakdown of what a platoon can / must consist of and how to organise it correctly (e.g. each platoon must have an officer and some units etc) maybe with a helpful 40k style FOC diagram, but it has at least helped me realise that the option exists.
FINALLY!!!! as a marine player myself the alligator creek theme is exactly what i did! happy to see im not the only one. BUT! i have to say that my favorite marine rules are for the raiders. see i served with the marines and the way our squads were broken down was as follows 3 rifle platoons + one weapons platoon per company 3 rife squads + platoon sgt&leader per platoon 3 fire teams + squad leader per squad and 1 team leader 1 squad leader 1 grenadier and 1 rifleman per fireteam. the marine raiders lists lets me break… Read more »
How many tanks does John have? Answers on a postcard to Beasts of War….
My guess is that at 28mm scale John would have at least 20 tanks and about 35-40 other vehicles including a few 25-pounder artillery pieces.
Nice video could we get a painting tutorial of how John paints his British force.
nice vid love the table guys.
Great Video
Question for John for more Tanks Just agree to use Tank War. We usually play with 2 plts, 1 from the regular selector(usually a theater specific one) and one from Tank War. We usually only play 1500-2500 points. That is what we can play in our allotted time and space comfortably. By using a vehicle heavy list we find that the games actually go a little quicker as well(unless they are recon heavy anyway).
I think your 1 Tank War and 1 normal BA platoon is a good way to go about getting more vehicles on the table yet keeping Bolt Action’s infantry focus. While an armored platoon isn’t inherently more powerful (quite the opposite most of the time), if both players aren’t on the same page it has a good chance leading to a lopsided game.
As an ex-artillery gun bunny I like taking artillery themed armies, along with mortor platoon.
Artillery on the table was one if the things I had hoped they had got rid of in 2.0
