Let’s Build Saint Nazaire! WW2 Terrain Project Part #2 – Repair & Refresh
March 28, 2024 by avernos
Gerry continues with his plans to revamp one of our old boards and some of the terrain for Spring Clean Hobby Challenge 2024. The idea is to build this using inspiration from Operation Chariot, crafting a Saint Nazaire port and dock from World War II for games of Bolt Action and 02 Hundred Hours in 28mm.

In this second video, Gerry starts to play around with the terrain and cuts some lumps off that John wanted to keep! We need to make space for that U-Boat so something has to go.
As well as that, we look into the cleaning of the board and that repair and refresh stage as we get elements plastered and sanded. There might also be some classic magi-mix used before a new coat of paint.
The cobblestones are getting some colour and the water gets a final finish of gel water effect to show it lapping against the docks.

i came here to say, people need to see the greatness of the Greatest movie ever made.
awwwh hell yeah!
I can safely comment on these videos as there is no G’Wullu stuff to be won so I won’t win. Huzzah! Cut it all the way down to the bone!
Gerry can work wonders with just a simple sponge! Looking great, can’t wait to see the Let’s Play on it.
Some of the targets for the Commandos were some under ground pumps and machinery. Are you going to incorporate that into the build?
Some great techniques on show and the final finish is a significant improvement on before. Looking forward to the next one.
Nice one 🙂
The sound of cutting polystyrene haunts my dreams
Fantastic looking board!
Watching Gerry work is nice and relaxing. Unless you’re John at home watching him ignore your instructions, I suppose.
It’s really good seeing the progress of the refurbishment. I like this idea, rather than making a whole new one from scratch.
Gotta love a good project revival
so nice to see builds again, back to the roots
This is fascinating and informative. Also Gerry…don’t take this the wrong way but I could listen to you all day
Do you have any plans for 80th Year of D-Day in June. The reason I ask is I have been looking back at the original videos Warren did for Flames of war that featured d-day they were amazing. However looking back on all that flames of war stuff you used to do it feels sad we seem to have lost that post covid. I know it is a different time and place now but any chance of maybe a battle report. Getting Dave and Warren to re-fight that old battle would be pretty amazing but I understand maybe not be… Read more »
Waiting for Gerry to make a dabbing beard hair brush to weather this set.
I was going to mention mixing pva with polyfilla but you already knew it, though I would have used it on the side fixs, as if you get the right mixture the dried paste is nigh on indestructible. A friend of mine ., used to own a chemical company and ws experimenting with putting the dried version of PVA , PVB in concrete, apparently you end up with bendy concrete. I used a batch of the stuff with poylyfilla (unfortunately using it all up) and the terrain bounces, as is still going strong to this day, mainly used on foam… Read more »
Being reminded of the magi-mix makes me think that perhaps I shouldnt use the cement paste I purchased from AK and should maybe do this instead, hmmm…
I’m looking forward to seeing the finished board
Could that have been a test run the commando raid did with the ship Gerry ?!??
The game Table looks fab Gerry.
Argh! Rogue Gerry!
I like the threats of cutting the wall away with John going ‘nah’ so you send him away and crack on with it anyway hahaha
