The Gebirgsjager Mountain Troops Come To WWII & Bolt Action
October 31, 2016 by brennon
Warlord Games are fighting in the mountains with the Gebirgsjager Squad, a unit of Elite Light Infantry, for the German army in Bolt Action.
These soldiers were hardened veterans who fought in all manner of different theatres putting their skills to the test against the Allies.
The regular squad in Bolt Action comes with Rifles but they have included options for SMGs and a Light Machine Gun too. If you want to theme them then you could also add skis to the equation!
They do look like tough looking soldiers and if you want to get them technically correct you need to make sure to paint the edelweiss flower on their person somewhere signifying them as part of this elite squad of soldiers.
What do you think?
"...you need to make sure to paint the edelweiss flower on their person somewhere signifying them as part of this elite squad of soldiers"
Although I would have preferred a plastic box for the Gebirgsjaegers I do like them. I’m sure they would look good in a K47 game as well 😎
Wasn’t the Edelweiss their cap badge??
Yeah, it still is. It’s the cap badge for all german Mountain troops in fact, and we were very proud of it 🙂
Plastic box set would get my money.
Perfect for a cross of iron game.
Like it, something a little bit different for the table
Anyone know if these would work as Hungarians? Thinking of starting an army project with the Royal Hungarian Army and was thinking these would make great veterans, but my knowledge of Hungarian uniforms and weapons is woefully lacking.
Hungarians used a lot of German weaponry, so it’s okay. Rifles aren’t really different in this scale, and MP-40s were pretty common. I would rather use a Solothurn LMG or a MG-42 instead of the MG-34, but again, it’s okay.
Hungary had mountain troops during the war, but their uniform was closer to the standard infantry’s. Maybe you could use these in late war, as elite Szent László Infantry Division, just paint the jackets in Hungarian camo and (optionally) cut some of the hat’s visors.
And they would need more mustaches to be proper Hungarians…. 😀
Awesome, I just have to find some references for uniforms and vehicles.
And I have plenty of green stuff for modelling some facial hair. 😛
Feel free to pm me, if you have any questions! I’m glad to help. (if I can…)
i love that the units are carrying additional ammo belts for the mg34 – little details like this are awesome! Could do with a whole plastic box of those…………
Would Warlord do a ‘Where Eagles Dare’ Set…
Really great minis. Got mine earlier this week.
