Cover Ground By Land Or Sea With Warlord’s Sherman V Duplex Tanks
April 12, 2015 by stvitusdancern
Warlord has brought the Sherman V Duplex Drive tanks, or DD tanks, forward to allow for travel across both land and sea in Bolt Action.
These tanks, affectionately referred to as Donald Duck (DD) tanks, allowed this kind of versatility with the ability to put a floatation screen around the tank.
The tank also had propeller, powered by the tank's engine, to propel it through the water.
Will you be covering more area in your game with these versatile tanks?

Hm , not a fan of resin but might have to get one . And the props were driven via a toothed plate / shaft arrangement from the rear idler wheel . In essence the engine moved the tracks , causing the idler to turn , driving the props .
Slightly disappointed there’s no waterline version with the screens up like the Japanese Ka-Mi tank has to versions, but I guess since the DD couldn’t fight from the water its not really needed in the game, still would be nice to have, even if only for the first turn of a beach landing mission.
In game, most of the time these aren’t any different to a regular 75mm armed sherman, but in the Normandy theater of the US book it gets the amphibious rule in exchange for the screens making it harder to see out of and causing more pin markers,
I’m thinking there is also a factor of not really knowing what sells when it comes to historical amphibians. Having two varieties will help make a case for either version later on.
yeah, but even then, they haven’t really done a fantastic job on the one with less screens IMO, I’d rather one with no screens instead of one with bits of canvas flapping about near the tracks. Also while I’m nit-picking, the rules is the armies of the United states and Battleground europe variation both leave the hull mounted MMG in place, which would be blocked by the screens on the rare examples were it was on the tank, and is omitted on the model with the screens hacked off..
It’s like an olden times Land Speeder.
Just the thing for a Worldwide D-Day Challenge game in 28mm! Check out this thread for @chrisg ‘s WWDDC project. 😀

I would only consider one of these if:
1) the screen came with deployed/undeployed options
2) the screen could be detached altogether
3) if I had a beach to run the game on
Gotta agree with point 3. Hence the D-Day Challenge idea. Personally, I’m using 15mm Shermans I already own with some kind of DD-drive skirt I’ll have to work up myself. And yes, it will be detachable. “Luckily,” not many American tanks made it to Omaha beach that day, so I won’t have to build too many of these. 😀
Looks as if the screen is only half deflated on the first tank.
