Great show boys!
Bolt Action is amazing! MY girlfriend called me this week saying when she gets home from work she wants to kick my butt with her americans 🙂 I’ve only just tried to intro her to 40k, too many rules to learn (but she did like it) but since she keeps beating me in BA with her americans against my germans, it’s a clear win for Bolt Action. Awesome, easy, quick game to get into. And BoW… you’ve all had a huge effect on us discovering it, so thanks!
I’ve generally found that in smaller point games, tooled up 6-7 man squads work great, then when you get up to the 1500, 1750 & 2000 mark bulking out your infantry is the way to go, with a couple of smaller squads for tactical flexibility. Combined arms! Once you’ve added in weapons teams you can get some great synergy, and it’s great having to force your opponent to prioritise XD Ignore the larger squads to their peril and risk a downpour of firepower, ignore the small squads and weapons teams and you can very quickly start piling up the pin… Read more »
The way the units are set up, large and powerful verses small and plentiful, it is almost the opposite of a U.S. v. German tank fight. A bit of a min max but it is great to show the difference in the strategy. Great show guys, keep up the good work.
Excellent stuff.
Interesting show. Thank you.
In terms of squad sizes, I generally run a 1500pt US Airborne list with 3x12man squads (full size). The weight of fire combined with the US move+shoot rules seem to complement them quite nicely,.and also being veterans they’re dying on a 5+, so it can take a lot of effort to clear these guys out.
The balancing act. When looking at unit sizes, there is another thing to consider, that’s Attrition. If you lose a big unit of ten vets, you’re losing a lot of points in Attrition. My Regulars never start below nine guys, but my Commandos go as low as five, and as many as eight.
Where can I get those pin markers?
Very good.
Great show! But I think you guys got one rule wrong, by removing a units dice in the middle of the turn and not at the turn end phase in, as specified in “The Turn” in the bolt action rule book. I’m only bringing it up because if you don’t remove it till the end phase you still have a small advantage with it being in the cup
Thanks again for do a real great bolt action show
Great show really looking forward to getting my guys into combat now bring on the Bootcamp.
Have to say having used my SAS in two squads of 5 they kick some serious but with smgs
I would love some of them pin markers.
Anybody notice that this is show is called “The Bigger B.A.L.L.S.”? =P
All kidding aside… another great show guys.
@dignity …. Who is Lucy?
Cracking show 🙂
Excellent show.
Great show, keep it up!
Nice show. Would’ve loved to see 1 or even 2 more turns to see how it plays out. Can’t wait for the Bootcamp!
I love the theme tune to the B.A.L.L.S!
Can somone please tell us what where the pin markers you used thank you 🙂
Justin had ’em made, in one of the other vids with chaz he says where, and he was bubbling about them in a weekender in feb-mar????
Is it a sceret ?
I’m building my forces – US Airborne and Late War British – “by the book” so far, as in matching historical Organizational charts.
But, when you look at the actual battles, units often had to “come as you are”, due to casualties and such. For ex: the Airborne in Normandy were badly scattered during the parachute drop, and formed ad hoc teams as they found each other and moved towards their objectives.
So, don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t “historical” enough. Above all, enjoy your games.
